Teacher: - Good day, dear children and guests. Today we have a special day, we have a contest. Four teams will take part in the game of the cleverest and the most quick-witted. Look, many guests have come to us. They want to know how much you have already learnt about English culture. ( выходят времена года в костюмах )

Winter:  I am the season when mornings are dark,

And birds don’t sing in the forests and parks.

I am the season when children ski

And Father Frost brings the New Year Tree.

Winter: Who am I?

Children: You are winter.

Teacher: Good children. And what do you think our contest will be about?

Children: It’ll be about seasons.

Teacher: There are special days in each season when we celebrate something. How do we call these days?

Children: We call them holidays. (1 слайд)

Teacher: Do you know that every day in the world something is celebrated. (2 слайд). But today we’ll speak about British holidays. For each correct answer you’ll get a medal. The team, which has more medals, will win. Our winter would like to ask you some questions. Get ready to answer. (3 слайд)

Winter: What is the weather like in winter?

Does it often snow in winter?

Are the days long or short in winter?

What do the children like to do in winter?

What holidays do British people celebrate in winter?

What poems and songs about winter holidays do you know?

Santa Claus, Santa Claus, you are much too fat! (sing to the tune of “Jingle Bells”)

Jingle Bells

1.I heard a reindeer hoof, then Santa dressed in red,

Came crashing through the roof and landed on my bed.

I thought it was a dream but quickly did I wake

As soon as I heard Santa scream “I want a piece of cake!”

Chorus:

Oh, Santa Claus, Santa Claus you are much too fat,

I was sleeping peacefully but now my bed is flat.

Oh! Santa Claus, Santa Claus how much do you weight?

I’m glad I’m not a reindeer that has to pull your sleigh.

2.He got up off the floor and said, ”How do you do”

I said “My back is sore, my head is black and blue.”

“So sorry” he replied, and then he asked my name

He offered me a ride, I said “No thank you just the same”

3.I heard a “ho, ho, ho” the sleigh was in the sky

But it was moving slow and wasn’t very high

It wobbled in the air, I hoped it wouldn’t fall;

Said Santa, chewing cookies, “Merry Christmas, one and all”

The poems:

             Christmas tree

Oh, Christmas tree ( 2 )

Your branches green delight us

Oh, Christmas tree (2)

Your branches green delight us

They’re green when summer

Days are bright.

They’re green when winter

Snow is white.

Oh, Christmas tree (2)

Your branches green delight us.

      New Year

New friends to meet,

New songs to sing,

New books to read,

New things to see,

New things to hear,

New things to do

This happy New Year.

My Bonnie

My bonnie is over the ocean, my bonnie is over the sea,

My bonnie is over the ocean, oh bring back my bonnie to me.

Chorus:

Bring back, bring back, oh, bring back my bonnie to me, to me.(2)

Last night as I lay on my pillow, last night as I lay on my bed.

Last night as I lay on my pillow, I dreamed that my bonnie was dead.

Chorus.

The wind has blown over the window, the wind has blown over the sea,

The wind has blown over the ocean and brought back my bonnie to me.

Chorus:

Brought back, brought back, oh, brought back my bonnie to me. (2)

And so does everyone.

With lots of love for you

Sugar is sweet

And so are you.

Summer: I am the season when nights are short,

                When children are full of fun and sport;

         My dear Mummy

My dear, dear Mummy

Let me kiss your face

I want you to be happy

Today and always

   My Mother

Mother is the dearest

Of all the friends I know

She helps me to work and play

That’s way I love her so.

One, one, one,

I love the sun

Two, two, two,

I love my mummy too

Three, three, three,

My mummy loves me.

Four, four, four

I love her more and more.

Mother is busy from morning to night

To keep her family happy and bright

I help my mummy to make the bed,

To lay the table, to clean the flat.

To help my mother I’m always glad.

                                            (6 слайд)

Autumn: I am the season when fruit is sweet,

I am the season when school friends meet.

When noisy and gay and brown in the sun,

With their books and bags to school they run.

                Down, down, down,

                Red, yellow, brown,

                My leaves fall down.

HALLOWEEN SONG

I was a monster the other night and I gave everyone such a fright,

It was the scariest Halloween I have ever seen.

I saw a fairy princess in a wig and silver dress,

It was the scariest Halloween I’ve ever seen.

There were orange pumpkins and vampire bats

There were lots of witches wearing big black hats.

I saw a clown juggling and a mummy shuffling,

It was the scariest Halloween I’ve ever seen.

There were little devils dancing up and down

There were hairy spiders crawling on the ground.

It was the scariest Halloween I’ve ever seen

It was the scariest Halloween I’ve ever seen.

The poems

Halloween, Halloween, magic night

We are glad and very bright,

We all dance and sing and recite

Welcome! Welcome! Halloween night!

In masks and gowns we haunt the street

And knock on doors for trick or treat

Tonight we are the king and queen

For oh tonight it’s Halloween.

It’s Halloween, it’s Halloween

The moon is full and bright

And we shall see what can’t be seen

On any other night

Skeletons and ghosts and ghouls

Grinning goblins fighting duels,

Werewolves rising from their tombs

Witches on their magic brooms.

The sad little ghost

Didn’t want any hair

Or a black pointed hat

So he said, “Witch beware!”

Then he chanted some words

With a spell casting switch

And gave Halloween night

A bald-headed witch.

Teacher: And now try to guess what holiday I am speaking about?

1.This holiday is celebrated in February as a day of love and friendship.
