LESSON PLAN OUTLINE                         Teacher: L. I. Drahanchuk. Sokal Lyceum # 3

 Class 3  Textbook:  Fly High 3

 Subject: Leisure time

 Objectives . Students will be able to:

                    ask and talk about the past;

                    learn using past simple (regular verbs)

                    use new vocabulary in speaking and writing activities;

                    improve using was/were in different situations;

                    practise known lexis ;

                    develop aural-oral habits; 

                    speak about children’s favourite activities.

Resources used: class CD, projector, flashcards, pictures, video game, PC.

Procedure

  1.  Preliminaries. Greeting.
  2. Warm-up.

Rewiev was/were: children sing and act out the song. Divide the class into four groups and allocate a verse of the song to each one. Each group sing their verse and act it out. 

  1.  Review: check the homework from the previous lesson
  2. Vocabulary work: reporter, photographer, work, newspaper; present the new lexis with the lesson’s flashcards. Use extra repetition to practise  /o:/ and / з:/
  3.  Speaking practice: children tell action verbs (i.e. clean, dance, play, walk, etc.)

Write them on the board. Put the children in pairs. They take turns miming one of the verbs for their friend to guess.

 

  1. Grammar practice.  Was/were (I, he, she, you, we, they,  ) happy/ tired/ excited/ sad/ brave yesterday?

  1.  Speaking “Microphone”. Picture-based description of leisure activities.
  2. Writing. Picture dictation.

The students write the names for the musical instruments in the picture.

  1. My favourite pastime. Team work. 

The students  are grouped in teams and write down the words from the picture. The team whose list is the longest, wins.

  1.  Reading activities. Pre-reading task: ask the children to look at the story (lexical practice, answering the questions).

While-reading task: match the sentences (monitor and help where necessary).

After-reading task: summarize (make sure the children realize how the characters feel)

  1. Listen and stick. Then circle.

Play the CD. Stop after each sentences. Allow the children enough time to stick their stickers. Say circle. Do the example with the class. Monitor and help. Check the answers.        I was busy last week.

                               On Monday I cleaned my bedroom.

                               On Tuesday I visited my aunt and uncle and

                               On Wednesday I   helped my dad.

                                We painted a wall in the living room.

 Write on the slide: clean, climb, dance, help, listen, paint, play, talk, watch.

Ask the children to come up and add the ending for the verb so it can be used to talk about yesterday. Ask them to find examples in the story.

  1.   Sing along with The Fly High band!       “I was at school” (Play the CD).
  2.  Group work. Play the word race. (Explain that the groups who writes All the answers first and correctly will be the winners)

  8. Three activities at school
  9. Three  leisure activities
  1.  Play video game. It’s a quiz time.
  2.  Homework:  PB Ex.4, p. 69 or   My project: make a leisure activities chart.
  3.  Summary.   What did you like at the lesson mostly?  Who was the best? The most active pupils get grades.    Now I can… (talk/ write about free-time activities, use was/were in the sentences, play games…) in English.
  4.  Optional activity. Play a game: say Yesterday I listened to music. Choose a child to repeat your sentence and add another action. Continue playing for as long as possible.
