LESSON PLAN OUTLINE  Teacher: L. I. Drahanchuk. Sokal Lyceum # 3

 

Class 4  Textbook:  Fly High 4

 

Topic:  My House

 

Objectives (Students will be able to…):

1) learn new topical vocabulary;

2) develop listening and reading comprehension skills;

3) practice using new vocabulary in speaking and writing activities;

4) improve using adjective comparative and superlative forms;

5) learn using offers to develop dialogue speaking;

6) discover the importance of being helpful at home.

Materials to be used: flashcards and pictures of houses and rooms; home/house vocabulary chant video; disc with the text and song for listening; Activity Book exercise (colouration picture) copies with lexical semantic task and text copies for homework.  

Procedure

  1. Greeting. Introductory talk.
  2. Warming-up activities.

    A) Phonetic vocabulary practice: Home/house vocabulary chant. Pupils repeat the names of things in the video in chorus listening to the chant

B) Spelling game. Students spell the words from their vocabulary, others try to guess the words.

  1. Speaking and grammar practice. Contrasting houses using degrees of comparison of adjectives. Students describe and contrast the houses in the pictures. They use the prompts to help them: big, new, old, beautiful, etc.

 

  1. Picture work and Vocabulary Review Practice
  1.     Labelling the rooms.
  2.     Picture comments: Where are they?
  3.     Guessing game What is the room? Let us see if you know the names of the rooms in the flat. Complete the sentences.

We sleep in the ….

We watch TV in the ….

We eat in the ….

We take off our shoes and coats in the ….

We read books in the ….

We wash the dishes in ...

We take a shower in a...

 

  1. Writing. Picture dictation.

The students write the names for the labelled things in the picture.

  1. Speaking “Microphone”. Picture-based description of the rooms.
  2. My Room. Memory game.  Team work 

Students look at the picture and try to remember as many things as possible. They then are grouped in teams and write down the words from the picture. The team whose list is the longest, wins.

  1. Completing a poem “I Have a Room” based on the picture from the previous exercise. Students try to find the proper word/rhyme to make up a poem about the picture.

 

  1.   Dialogue. Making an offer practice. Pair work. PB ex.2 p.49

CLUES: make the dinner, clean the kitchen, tidy the bedroom, lay the table, sweep the floor, make the beds, wash the dishes, dry the dishes

       

          S 1: – I’ve got to make the dinner.

S 2: – Shall I lay the table?

S 1: – Thank you. That’s kind of you.

  1.  Homework: AB exercise A p.46 (draw lines to match the verbs and nouns, then write the jobs under the pictures and colour them). Write a list of furniture items you have in your room. EXTRA task: make a crossword about HOUSE. Read a story about a boy’s visit to his granny’s farmhouse, match the parts of the sentences.

 

  1.  Making a song. “We’re cooking in the kitchen” song. Students listen to the song and arrange the lines in the correct order, then Ss sing the song in chorus.

 

  1.  Summary.  The Ss discuss what things they enjoyed at the lesson. The class analyse what things they have discovered in the House expedition. Then the class find out the students who were the best at the lesson.
