HEALTHY WAY OF LIFE

Objectives: learning goal: to involve students into reading, writing, communicative activities; development goal: to learn to discuss the problem; to expand students' vocabulary; to practice grammar; to involve students to work in pairs and groups; educational goals: to develop students' cooperative skills; to develop students' thinking.

Equipment: pictures, cards with tasks, students' projects, textbooks.

PROCEDURE

  1. INTRODUCTION

T. I am glad to see you today so happy and healthy. It’s necessary to everyone to take care about our health. And during our lesson we’ll speak about it. In such winter weather our “Sun” will warm us and help to speak.

The theme of the lesson is “Healthy way of life”. Why do we speak about it? How do you think what we will do during the lesson? What have we to do to be healthy?

Pupils answer’s:

Healthy way of life:

• healthy food

• sport

• medicine

T. So, the pictures which illustrate your answers will help to discuss our topic today.

Your home work was to prepare projects: the association maps on the same topics. We’ll check it during the lesson.

Warming up

A poem. The class is divided into three groups. Read a jazz-chant by Carolyn Graham.

Doctor. You’ve got flue. I’ll give you a prescription for some medicine. Take one spoonful every fiur hours.

Doctor. Hello. What’s the problem?

Doctor. Can you take off your shoe off? Oh yes. Can you move your foot?

Patient. Yes, but it hurts.

Doctor. Hmm. You need X-ray. I’ll put a bandage on it for now.

Patient. Should I go today?

Doctor. Yes. Take this letter with you. Good bye.

HEALTHY SCHOOL COMPETITION

             I think health and fitness at school is really important. I’ve got a lot of ideas for our school.

            Firstly, we need more sports and exercise clubs. Some students don’t like team sports like football. If we had aerobics or judo classes, more students would do sport. And perhaps we could have a cheap school ticket for the swimming pool in town? If it wasn’t so expensive, I’d go swimming every week.

           Secondly, we should change the food in the school canteen. The only healthy food there is fruit, and that’s really boring every day. If the canteen had more exciting healthy snacks, students wouldn’t eat crisps every day. I think the canteen should sell healthy sandwiches and salads instead of pizza, and muesli bars and nuts instead of chocolate.

          Thirdly, we need more water fountains at school. It’s very important to drink a lot of water because it stops you getting tired. If we had water fountains in the corridors and outside in the playground, students would drink more water. They would also drink fewer soft drinks.
