9 Describing People: Traits of Character (reading)

There is no doubt that all people have different traits of character. Sometimes you may even think that you know a person very well because you have been friends for many years, but one situation can show how wrong you were. In lots of cases, people just do not know who they really are and what they are capable of.

Anyway, each of us has negative and positive character traits, and we all want to be better. In life, there is a constant battle between these two traits.

As for me, I am calm and easy-going, that is why it is easy for me to make new acquaintances. Besides, my friends say that I am helpful, kind-hearted, and  supportive. Well, no matter how busy I am, I will always be ready to help when people need me most. Speaking of my negative character traits, I am lazy and stubborn. Besides, I am too vulnerable and sensitive. I dislike when people criticize me, maybe because I feel like I must be perfect in everything.

Another negative trait of character that I dislike is being short-tempered. Sometimes I lose my temper and cannot control myself when I am arguing with someone.

If you ask me to describe a person whose character I like, I would tell you about my best friend, Anya. She is sociable and cheerful. She is always in high spirits, and her optimism always cheers me up and puts me in a good mood.

Besides, she is smart, goal-oriented, and hard-working. She is an excellent student and already knows three foreign languages. She is a well-rounded person who is fond of music, reading, and painting.

As for the traits of character that I dislike in people, I think it is envy and hypocrisy. Unfortunately, appearances can often be deceptive. As the saying goes, "Don't judge a book by its cover". Talking about other negative traits that I hate, it is cruelty and ruthlessness. I cannot stand cruel people. Moreover, I don't trust people who don't like animals; I find them cold and heartless.
