The UK has a Constitutional Monarchy that means that there is a king or a queen who has a huge power.

The Magna Carta in 1215 and the Bill of Rights in 1689 didn't give more power to the people

The role of the monarch is to represent the UK around the world.

The Queen gives the Royal Assent on any bill that is passed by the Parliament.

There are three branches of power in the UK government.

The Prime Minister and their Cabinet made up the Juditial branch of power.

Leading the government and proposing new legislation or laws is the Prime Minister's and their Cabinet job.

A law is called a Bill after it is passed in the Parliament.

The Legislature is a part of government which is made of the two Houses of Parliament

MPs can discuss, accept or reject the new legislation suggested by the executive.

MPs of the Houses of Lords can decide what legislation gets passed, authorise taxes and hold the government to account.

There are twenty - five different departments which are headed by a Minister from the Prime Minister's Cabinet, who they choose.
