My Street by Alex Gardener

I think our street is a very interesting place because all our neighbours come from different countries. We all get on well with each other. I’m English, but our next-door neighbours come from Poland and the family opposite us are from Bulgaria. My best friend, who lives in our street, is from Wales and he can speak Welsh. He speaks English with a strong Welsh accent. He is trying to teach me some words in Welsh, but it’s difficult and I’m not very good at it! Other neighbours are Chinese, French and Canadian. Every summer we have a big street party and all the neighbours cook something from treir own country. We learn songs in each other’s languages and dance in the street. My friends and I also play in a band. We have great fun together. Every December we visit the other houses to celebrate Christmas in different traditional ways and we also celebrate the Chinese New Year. We’ve got friends who live all over the world and every evening we keep in touch with them by chatting on Skype or Facebook. I love technology! I’m very interested in learning about different cultures and I can do that on my street, without having to travel far at all !
