Mary was very fond of television, so when she met a young man who worked for a television company, she was very interested and asked him a lot of questions.

She discovered that he had also worked for a film company, so she asked whether there was any difference between film work and television work.

“ Well” , answered the young man, “ film-making has its own laws. If someone makes a mistake while a film is being made, the filming can be stopped at once and the scene done again. True enough, time and money are lost, but the audi­ences who see the film after it has been finished don’t know that anything went wrong. But in a live television show, the audience can easily see any mistakes that are made” .

“I can tell you a story about that. One day, a live television show was on, and one of the actors was shot. He fell and was lying on the floor, the camera moved somewhere else to give me time to run out with a bottle of tomato sauce to put on him to look like blood. But the trouble started when the camera turned back to him before I had finished, and the audience saw me standing over him and holding the bottle of sauce” .

“ Oh, how upsetting!” Mary said. “And what did you do?”

“ Well” , answered the young man, “ I couldn’t afford to lose the job. So what could I do? Just had to make them believe that this was part of story, and eat the man” .
