TV ads

I was watching TV the other night and – as usual – there were all those irritating advertisements in the middle of the film, disturbing my concentration! Well, I don’t usually take any notice of the ads, in fact I quite often turn the volume down when they’re on, as they’re so boring. But this time I’m not quite sure what happened to me. One ad caught my attention. It was for a smartphone, and I was actually thinking of getting one at the time. So anyway, I decided to go for it, and I ordered one. The advertisement made it sound so brilliant!
Well, it arrived the next day. It was super fast, and at first I was impressed. However, I really regret it now. I’m not at all happy with it, and I’m sure it’s faulty. For example, I texted a friend yesterday and the message went to the wrong person! That’s hopeless – and it could be quite embarrassing too. Another thing is, the battery doesn’t last for very long. I charged it last night but it’s almost dead again already. It’s very disappointing, and I hope they give me my money back.
Sarah usually enjoys the adverts she sees on TV.

Joanna Newton’s sculptures
by Dan Simpson
Joanna Newton, an artist and my aunt, is renowned for her sculptures. During my primary school days, she shared her experiences of traveling nationwide and giving talks in schools with my mother. I vividly recall being captivated by photos of her sculptures, inspiring me to attempt creating clay sculptures like hers. Regrettably, I soon recognized that matching her skill was a daunting task.
Over time, Joanna has gained recognition as a sculptor, showcasing her work in numerous exhibitions, even in a Paris gallery. Her sculptures primarily focus on portraying various forms of movement, whether human, animal, or trees swaying in the wind. In addition to traditional clay, she incorporates materials like metal and recycled items to explore diverse effects.
One sculpture, in particular, captured my interest — birds crafted from metal, appearing to fly around a building. Although unlike real birds, the meticulous observation of their flight evident in the sculpture fascinated me. I deeply admire Joanna's work, and as a family, we take immense pride in her accomplishments.
Joanna Newton is a renowned painter, not a sculptor.
