Microtopic: At the Birthday Party.

Objectives: by the end of the lesson students will be able to

  • speak about their birthday party, say birthday wishes;
  • use specific examples in the dialogues to illustrate an aspect of human behavior at the table; to offer, to ask for permission, to accept and refuse the offer using the grammar patterns What would you like, Can I have, Can I ask for more,

I’d love to and so on;

  • develop communicative skills using the active vocabulary;
  • develop their writing and listening skills;
  •  work cooperatively in pairs and groups.  

Vocabulary: birthday person, a gift, a birthday cake, to light a candle, to blow out a candle, to bake a cake, to blow up a balloon, make a wish, to bring gifts

Grammar items: Present Simple

Materials to be used: flashcards, text for listening, text for reading, the Internet recourses, a projector, Power Point Presentation, handouts

 

Procedure

I. Introduction

1) Greeting

The teacher greets the pupils and has a short conversation with them.

T: Good morning, good morning,                                                                                     The best to you this morning.

 How are you? How are you?

I hope you feeling fine

And happy all the time.

T: Birthday is such a wonderful day for everybody! Many people like to celebrate it. On this day you are in the centre of attention. You can spend time with your parents, friends and relatives and get a lot of presents. People like their birthdays because of the presents, too. On this day you can always hear “Happy Birthday!”
“Many happy returns of the day!

And today we’ll describe the things around us on the birthday party: food, presents.

 

2) Warming-up and checking up the homework.

T: But before going to the birthday party let’s remember some things. What are your associations with the words ”Happy Birthday!”?  (a birthday person, a gift, a birthday cake, to light a candle, to blow out a candle, to bake a cake, to blow up a balloon, to send birthday cards, to bring gifts)

                          The cat lives in a small house. In the kitchen of the cat’s house live little mice. The cat is very big and every day she eats one or two mice. But on her birthday the cat does not eat mice. Every year all the mice in her house come to the cat’s birthday party. Of course, the cat is very glad to see the mice. They usually give her birthday presents: cakes, bottles of milk and interesting toys. The toys are made of paper and cotton. The cat likes the cakes and milk. She likes the toys too.
