Eric: I’m reading an autobiography by a police officer called Adam Holden who arrested a well–known criminal.

Rob: How exciting. Tell me more!

Eric: Well, (1) _______, the author used to be a historian. I didn’t expect that. He changed his job after a thief stole some of his expensive jewellery.

Rob: What happened exactly?

Eric: The thief broke a window in the living room. Adam heard the noise and went into the living room. (2) , the thief didn’t hurt him. (3) , the thief left with the jewellery.

Rob: Oh no!

Eric: Yeah. Poor Adam. (4) , he called the police station and gave a description of the thief. Rob: Did they catch him?

Eric: No, they didn’t, but (5) when I read that several years later, Adam caught a criminal, who was the same guy who’d stolen Adam’s jewellery!
