Secondary School in Ukraine
Secondary school in Ukraine usually starts when pupils are 10–11 years old and finishes at the age of 17–18. Pupils study in secondary school from Grade 5 to Grade 11.
In Ukrainian secondary schools, pupils learn many different subjects. These subjects include Ukrainian language, Ukrainian literature, Mathematics, History, Geography, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, English and other foreign languages. Physical Education, Art and Music are also important subjects.
Lessons usually start at 8 or 9 o’clock in the morning. Pupils have 5 or 6 lessons a day. Each lesson lasts 45 minutes. During breaks pupils can rest, talk with friends or have a snack.
Teachers explain new material, ask questions and give homework. Pupils often do tests, projects and presentations. Many schools also offer clubs and extracurricular activities, such as sports, music, art or computer clubs.
Secondary school helps pupils get knowledge, develop skills and prepare for future studies and adult life.
