The city is known for it's magnificent churches and cathedrals. Top of the list and Kyiv's most popular tourist attraction is Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra (the Caves Monastery). Other notable churches are Michael's Golden-Domed Monastery, St. Sophia’s Cathedral, St Volodymyr’s Сathedral and St Andrew’s Church.

Kyiy is a very green city with many beautiful parks and gardens. Many of them are near the Dnioro river. You can start in the city centre at Khreshchatyk Park and walk right to National Воtanical Gardens around 5 miles away, passing Mariyinsky Park and the Park of Glory on the way.

Kyiv has lots of museums and historical buildings. The Golden Gate dates back to the 11^th century and was once part of the Kyiv city wals. The Motherland Monument, the Soviet Ukraine's answer to the Statue of Liberty, towers high above the Museum of the Great Patriotic War.

For a pleasant day in the country visit the open-air museum at Pyrohove. Located on the outskirts of Kyiv, this is the only one attraction that can't be reached on foot or by metro.

To relax in the city take a walk along Khreshchatyk or browse the colourful stalls at Bessarabskty Market.
