Topic: “Eating out”

Aims:

  • The students consolidate the core vocabulary and grammar (food, some/ any) through a song.

Learning objectives: by the end of the lesson students will be able to:

  • identify food items;
  • sing a song for pleasure;
  • describe food items in the fridge and lunchbox.

Materials: Quick Minds 4 (Pupil’s Book, Activity Book), flashcards, CD 1 Tr 38, pictures from Google, self-assessment cards, physical activity, the presentation    

Procedure

1. Greeting

  • Good afternoon, children. I am glad to see you. How are you?

2. Aim      

  • The topic of our lesson is “Eating out”. Today we are going to sing a song and speak about food. By the end of the lesson you’ll be able to identify food items; sing a song for pleasure; describe food items in the fridge and lunchbox.

3. Warm up

  • Look at the flashcards and say the words: a glass of apple juice, a bowl of soup, butter, salad, ham, a bottle of water, biscuits, pasta.
  • Would you like some pasta/ salad/ biscuits/ ham? (Yes, please./ No, thanks.)

4. Vocabulary practice

Look at our fridge and answer my questions:

  • Is there any butter in the fridge? (No, there isn’t.)
  • Are there any bananas in the fridge? (Yes, there are.)
  • Are there two bottles of milk in the fridge? (Yes, there are.)
  • Is there any ham in the fridge? (Yes, there is.)
  • Are there any sausages in the fridge? (Yes, there are.)
  • What’s in the fridge? (There is/ are … )

5. Listening

  • Open your Pupil’s Book on p. 28. How many children are there in the picture? What’s in the fridge? What’s in the lunchbox?
  • Listen to the song (CD 1 Tr 38). Read it.
  • Sing the song together. You can dance.
  • Listen and complete the song.

6. Writing

  • Open your Activity Book on p. 28. Do ex. 1. 
  • Look and make true sentences.
  • Read the sentences.

7. Speaking. Group work.

  • Work in groups. Describe food in your lunchbox.
  • Write the sentences. Use the structure There is… / There are ….
  • Present your work.
