Theme: On the farm. Прикметник.

              Ступені порівняння

Objectives:

- вивчити нові лексичні одиниці, формувати навички вживання нових лексичних одиниць в усному та писемному мовленні;

- повторити прості форми ступенів порівняння прикметників;

- вивчити складені форми ступенів порівняння прикметників;

- розвивати діалогічне та монологічне мовлення учнів;

- тренувати навички аудіювання, читання, письма;

- виховувати любов до свійських тварин.

Visual aids: white board, lap top, power point presentation, HO1, HO2, HO3 textbook, workbook, a toy mouse, posters, schemes.

                        Procedure

I. Introduction

Greeting:

T.: Hello, children! How are you today?

Ps: Very well! We are glad to meet you.

T.: Are you ready for the lesson?

Ps.: Yes we are!

T.: OK! Let’s start. Are you happy today?

Ps: Yes, we are!

T.: Are you sad?

Ps: No, we aren’t!

Introduction into the topic:

T.: I want you to be positive, active, creative, not shy.

T.: Translate these words into Ukrainian, please.

P.: Позитивний, активний, творчий, не- сором’язливий.

Phonetic drill

T.: Let’s recite a poem “To the farm” together.

Horses, donkeys, cows that moo

Chickens, kittens, piglets too

Fish that swim down in the pond,

Ducklings quacking all day long

All these animals you can see

If you go to the farm with me

T.: The theme of today’s lesson is:

 “On the farm. Прикметник. Ступені порівняння.”

Warming up activities:

 T.: Look at the picture and name the animals. What are they like?

P.1 I see a cow. It is black and white.

P.2 I see a pig. It is pink and funny.

P.3 I see a dog. It is black and not big.

II. Listening

 T.: Guess the riddles (учитель зачитує описи тваринок, учні повинні їх назвати)

1. It is a very useful animal. It gives us milk. From  milk we can make butter and cheese. They are as big as horses.

P.: It’s a cow.

2. It is grey or white. It has long ears. It likes to eat carrots and cabbage. It can run and jump.

P.: It’s a rabbit.

3. This animal also gives milk but it's smaller than a cow. They're as big as dogs. They are very strong. They like to run, climb and jump. They like to fight.

P.: It’s a goat.

4. This animal is very big and fast. It helps people on the farm, in the field because it's very strong.

P.: It’s a horse.

5. This animal is the funniest. It is fat. It has short thin legs, round nose and rosy cheeks.

P.: It’s a pig.

III. Home task checking:

1. Read the dialogue pg.117 ex.1;

2. Act this dialogue;

3. Match the opposites (учням роздаються надруковані на аркушах прикметники їх завдання знайти протилежні за значенням слова)

Old, dirty, ugly, difficult, angry, boring, sad, cold, new, clean, beautiful, easy, kind, interesting, happy, warm. (Old-new, dirty-clean, ugly-beautiful, difficult-easy, angry-kind, boring-interesting, sad-happy, cold-warm)

4. Find the words with the same meaning in the basket:  Little, big, pretty, sad, large, small, unhappy, beautiful.                        

P.: Little- small; big-large; pretty-beautiful; sad-unhappy.                                               

IV. Physical break

Singing like a star,                        

I am playing, I am playing      

Playing a guitar                                   

I am dancing, I am dancing

Dancing rock and roll,

I am clapping, I am clapping

V. Revising grammar material

T.: Давайте пригадаємо правила утворення простих форм ступенів порівняння прикметників.

P1: Односкладові та деякі двоскладові прикметники утворюють вищий та найвищий ступені з додаванням суфіксів -er,-est.

Наприклад:  big       bigger      the biggest                                                                        s                      small   smaller    the smallest

P2: У деяких випадках відбувається подвоєння останньої приголосної літери

Hot    hotter    the hottest

Якщо слово закінчується літерою –y з попередньою приголосною, то вона змінюється на –i

Happy    happier    the happiest

T.: Very good answer.

VI. New grammar material

T.: Сьогодні ми розглянемо складені форми ступенів порівняння прикметників. Такі форми мають усі багатоскладові прикметники та деякі двоскладові, крім тих, що закінчуються на -y,-e,-ow,-er. Наприклад:

Beautiful   more beautiful   the most beautiful

Useful        more useful         the most useful

Потрібно також запам’ятати винятки утворення ступенів порівняння прикметників:

                              good   better   the best

                              bad    worse   the worst

VII. Writing. Pair work

T.: Let’s check your understanding. You have to fill the gaps in the table. Робота в парах, вам роздаються картки з таблицею, потрібно  заповнити пропуски, утворюючи прості і сладені форми ступенів порівняння прикметників. HO1

VIII. Physical break

T.: Let’s sing a song “If you are happy”

Учні співають пісеньку і виконують рухи.

IX. Listening task

1. Pre-listening activity. Look at the picture and learn new words pg.119, Ex.1

2. While -listening activity pg.119, Ex.2

X. Reading

T.: Read the text on page 119, Ex 2 aloud, find the adjectives and translate them.

XI. Writing

T.: Form the comparatives (запишіть прикметники за зразком) pg.120, Ex.3.

Учні записують прикметники на дошці і в зошити: nicer, cleaner, more beautiful, newer,  more comfortable,  more useful, worse, better.

XII. Group work

T.: Make the whole from the parts (клас ділимо на три групи, кожна група повинна скласти по два речення з певного набору слів, попередньо переглянувши вправу) Ex.5, pg.121. HO2

Виграє команда, яка швидше виконала завдання.

T.: Dear pupils what have you learnt at the lesson? (Учні зчитують інформацію на слайді)

T.: Great, you were very active at the lesson. Thank you for attention. To finish our lesson we’ll sing and watch a funny song “Old McDonald” (учні співають пісеньку і дивляться відео).

T.: The lesson is over. Bye, bye!

Додаток до завдання IV

Dialogue: (pg.117, Ex.1)      

Mother: Nick, we are going to aunt Lisa and uncle Fred this weekend. They invited us to visit their farmhouse.

Nick: A farmhouse? Do they live in the country?

Mother: Well, they bought a farm and moved to the country.

Nick: When did they buy it?

Mother: Last year they bought an old farmhouse. It was ugly and had a bad roof. They made a new roof, painted the walls and changed many things on the farm.

Nick: Do they have any animals there?

Mother: Of course, they do.

Nick: Oh, it's interesting!

      UNCLE FRED'S FARM (pg.119,Ex.2)

   The farmhouse is painted and it looks nicer. The flowers are more beautiful. The tractor is more useful. Farmer Fred drives it and works in the fields. In the vegetable garden there are lots of vegetables. Fred's wife Lisa cooks them for dinner. The cows are cleaner. They are happier and give a lot of milk. Fred sells it and he also makes cheese. The dog's life is better and more interesting. He plays with Fred's son Tim. He eats better food. He's not so thin any more. He is fatter.

    The chicken house has a new roof and it is more comfortable. The chickens are warmer and they aren't afraid of the fox any more. They give more eggs so that farmer Fred and his family can have fresh eggs for breakfast in the morning. There is a big cat on the farm now and the mice are afraid. Life is also worse for the fox. He is not so fat and he is hungry. He doesn't have chicken for dinner any more.
