Sport in our life ( 4th Form)

   Objectives:   to enrich pupils' vocabulary ;

                         to develop pupils’ skills in listening, reading, speaking and writing;

                         to  develop pupils’ critical thinking;

                         to provide interactive work in pairs and small groups;

                      to arouse interest of the lesson and to broaden pupils’ outlook.

 

Equipment:  pictures , cards, crosswrds, video"Ukrainian sportsmen"

Procedure

І. Greeting

Good morning, pupils. How are you today? Are you all healthy?

 

EVOCATION

2. AIM

Today we are starting to learn a new unit and we are going to speak about sport and its place in our life.

 3. Warming up

a) We'll begin our lesson with a poem about sport but you have to make up it. (the poem is cut into strips)

Sport is fun for girls and boys,

It's much better than the toys.             

You can swim and play football!

Hockey, tennis, basketball.

You can jump and you can run, 

You can have a lot of fun!                   

 

Teacher:   - Do you have a lot of fun going in for sport? 

•       What kinds of sport were mentioned in this poem?

b) Role Play

Today we have a guest. I want to introduce her to you. Miss Myroslava, Ukrainian by birth, now a citizen of London, a well-known journalist of   Sport   News. She wants to ask you some questions.

Questions:- Is sport very important in your life?

•       Do you go in for sport?
•       Is there a swimming pool in your school?
•       Do you like to swim?
•       What kinds of sport are popular in your school?
•       Who is the best sportsmen in your form? \
•       What is your trainer's name?
•       What is your favourite kind of sport?
•       What sport competitions took place in your school last time?

1. Vocabulary Practice

Lets make two teams and make a competition

I Task

Both teams have to write as many words as they can to the topic "Sport" in 2 minutes.

II Task ( Writing essay)

The teams exchange their word list. Then each team chooses 5 words from the list and writes a short story using the words. Another team has to guess the words which have been used.

2. Listening

T: Look at the blackboard and let's name these pictures, (different kinds of sport)

You'll listen to the description of some kinds of sport. Your task is to guess them.

is a team game. It is a winter game. Only men and boys can play it. Many people

like to watch this game on TV. The players don't run on the field. They skate.

grace. The sportsmen do some exercises or dance to the music. The sportsmen

have skates and beautiful costumes on. (Figure - skating)

first played in the USA. The team has five players. They bounce the ball on the

floor up and down with one hand. They try to throw the ball into a basket.

I'll try to tell you now about the games we play in England.

not in summer. Football is the most popular game in England, because England is the home of football. Schools and towns have football teams, and of course the English team is well known in the world.

cold. But we play field hockey. There are men's teams and women's, and many schools have teams too.
