Procedure
T. Good morning, dear pupils! I’m glad to see you. How are you?
Listen the rhyme and say what it is about.
I like to ride in railway train
Through tunnels dark and wide.
Over the bridges crossing the river,
I feel so safe inside.
When water looks very smooth,
I like to sail by ships or boat.
A sea voyage is very good,
When you feel a sea breeze blows.
But airplane is the best of all,
It flies so very high
That people look like tiny dots,
And clouds go sailing by.
T. -What is this poem about?
- What means of travelling do you like?
Aim Today we’ll have unusual lesson. We’ll travel to the wonderful places
Warming up
T. Look at the picture. What is this?
P1. I can see the boy on the carpet.
P2. The boy is flying on the carpet.
P3. The carpet is magic.
T. We’ll travel around the world.
Answer the questions:
II. Main part
a) Pre-listening
1. Revise some vocabulary using flashcards: carpet, shop, jungle, desert, ice, snow, mountain.
2. Write the word under the picture
3. Running dictation
Groups of 3 or 4 students each. The copy of the text is on the blackboard.
Deserts are the driest places on Earth. It usually does not rain there. The Sahara is like an ocean of sand. To travel in the desert you need “the ship of the desert” or the camel. The camel can travel in the desert for ten days without food or water. After that it gets very hungry and only eats and drinks for days.
The rules of the game:
• The aim of the game is to copy the text. The first group to finish accurately is the winner.
• One student at a time per group comes and memorizes part of the text, runs back to the writer and dictates to the writer. Then the next “runner” goes to the text and does the same.
• The runners must not write.
• All runners must go to the text in turn.
• Only one student per group at a time. (Make sure you repeat this).
• No cameras to take a picture of the text. (Watch them carefully - they often try anyway!)
• No pens and paper for runners.
The winning group read out their text and check for accuracy or give students the original text and get them to check themselves.
b) While listening
T. Now we’ll watch and listen to a story ”Ali and the magic carpet”. You should try to imagine everything you hear.
