Unit 1. Sports in My Family.
Aims: - teach students to speak about family members` sports preferences
Procedure
Warm-up
Hello, my dear! Are you OK today? Let`s prepare our tongues for English speaking. A new tongue twister for you. (work with the tongue twister)
Well done, kids!
Main Part
Look at the picture. What do you see? (A Sporty Family) Exactly! It`s a sporty family. They all like doing sport, but have different sport preferences. Who likes sport in your family? What sports do your family members do? Do they play any sport games? Let`s talk more about it.
Listen to an interview with the famous British tennis player Andrea Murray. Listen to the first part where she tells about her family and match the names and sports to proper family members.
Speak about Andrea`s family: Her mom`s name is… She likes doing/going/playing…
Listen to the second part of the interview and do exercise 1-3, p. 11 WB
So, Andrea and her family members enjoy doing various sports. What`s Andrea`s favourite sport? Right, it`s tennis.
How often does she practice?
What does she do in her free time?
Look at the slide. This is Ann. She`s also got a sporty family. Look at the pictures. What can they tell you about Ann? (Teacher asks questions) What sport does she play? Where does she practice? How often does she play beach volleyball? Who does she play with? What does she need to play volleyball?
Now tell 5 sentences about Ann.
There are 4 other family members in Ann`s family. Find the same information about them in groups. You`ll have four groups and each group should complete the text using the given tips. (Worksheet)
Now in groups read about each of the family members.
Do a multiple-choice test on the information from the previous task. Exchange your paper sheets and assess the works.
