Welcome to the World of Jobs

 

(за посібником Anne Robinson «Prepare Around the World: посібник для розвитку умінь читання і мовлення»).

 

Опис:

На цьому уроці учні розвивають навички читання, аудіювання і говоріння по темі «Професії». Починаємо з деяких загальних питань про обов’язки людей різних професій. Потім виконуємо завдання на читання, аудіювання і говоріння. Обговорюємо питання можливостей роботи для людей з вадами слуху. Учні також тренуються у висловлюваннях про незвичайні професії.

 

Час уроку: 45 хвилин

 

Опис класу:

 16 допитливих хлопців та дівчат, які полюбляють активне навчання. Рівень англійської А 2.

 

Обладнання та додатки: Anne Robinson «Prepare Around the World: посібник для розвитку умінь читання і мовлення», projector, інтерактивний цифровий контент LearningApps, You Tube, power point presentation.

Goal:

- to develop reading and speaking skill

- to enrich vocabulary on the topic “Jobs”

- to develop critical thinking

- to teach students describe jobs

- to encourage students discover interesting facts about unusual jobs

- to teach to be tolerant to disabled people

 

Procedure

I. Greeting. Aim.

II. Brainstorming. Speaking.

Task 1. Look at the photo. What is the person’s job? What are the person’s duties?

 

 

Task 2. Exercise 1 page 26 “Prepare around the world”: Read the statements. What do you think a person in this job can say?

1. I work inside / outside.

2. I travel / don’t travel a lot.

3. I use / don’t use my hands.

4. I sit / don’t sit down.

5. I work alone / work with a team of people.

6. I don’t start and finish / start and finish work at the same time every day.

 

III. Vocabulary Practice

Task 1. Exercise 2 page 26 “Prepare around the world”: Match the words in the box with the photos A – G.

a barista - A person who serves coffee in a coffee shop.

an interpreter - A person who changes what someone else is saying into another language.

a pilot – A person who flies planes.

an engineer - A person who designs or builds machines and structures.

a sports coach – A person who trains athletes.

a shop assistant - A person who serves customers in a shop.

Task 1. Exercise 5 page 26 “Prepare around the world”: Read the text below. Where do deaf and hard-of-hearing people work in South Africa? What is important to do when you talk to deaf people?

 

Task 2. Exercise 5 page 26 “Prepare around the world”: correct the mistakes in the sentences.

 

Task 3. Look at the photos. Can you name the people’s jobs?

These jobs are unusual. Photo 1 – a bed tester. Photo 2 – a Netflix viewer. Photo 3 – a dog food tester. Photo 4 – an underwater pizza deliverer.  Can you describe these jobs? What do people do?

 

Task 4. Read the texts about these unusual jobs in Project section page 27 “Prepare around the world”. Which would you like to do?

Top 5 Most Unusual Jobs

 Hello everyone and in this video we're going to make a top 5 of unusual jobs. Yes, those jobs that you probably never heard about but they really exist.

Bed tester

   And our number 5 is the bed tester. Yeah, for the ones who thought that sleepping into work was impossible you are completely wrong. Some luxury bed companies conduct sleep surveys for feedback on how to get a good night's sleep some people spend hours a day in a bed under different conditions experiencing variations in lighting and temperature and to do this very important job people can make the average of 27 k. What do you think about that? 

Waterslide tester

   The number 4 in our list is the waterslide tester a waterslide tester checks if the waterslides and hotels are both fun and safe. You may work as a waterslide tester for a hotel chain or a large travel company and you spend most of your time on airplanes traveling from hotel to hotel when you arrive you put on your swimming outfit and head to the pool. And to do this really important job people can make 34k a year.

 

Dog surfer instructor

   And it it's time for our number three. Dog surfer instructor. Yeah! That is exactly what you've heard. Dog surfer instructor. Why not give the chance to your best friend to get those great waves. To be a dog surfer instructor you need to be good at surfing yourself and you have to be pet friendly some instructors say that it's easier to teach dogs because they learn faster than humans. Do you believe in it?

Golf ball diver

Our number two goes to golf ball diver the job role itself is a simple one just golf ball diver get the balls out of the water into baskets. After that, this balls are going to be cleaned repatched and then sold in a cheaper price than those bought new and just making a little research in the internet we can find out that a golf ball diver can make from 50 to 100k a year. What do you think about that?

Pet food tester

    And our number one goes to pet food tester. You may think anyone who even considers this testing pet food is desperate but you'd be surprised to find out that most of people who have been working in this area are people with doctor degrees so this work it's more like a combination of a researcher and a taster. Actually their main job it's testing not tasting. Besides all those lab results these professionals also evaluates the flavours textures and consistencies of the food and after all of it they spit it out. Yeah!

They don't really need to eat it. And just checking in the Internet how much does professionals make here I just found out it was something like 40k a year. What do you think about that? All right guys, there was our top five unusual jobs. I hope you liked it and goodbye!
