Topic: Cities around the World
Outcomes: - to provide pupils with crosscurricular information on geography;
-to revise the vocabulary and practice in its using;
- to develop listening, reading and writing skills;
- to practice speaking;
- to develop pupils’ attention and imagination;
-to talk about countries, cities and interesting sights.
Materials: flashcards of travel, capital city, huge, statue, tower, palace, tourist;
Power Point Presentation, Mind Map, Student’s Book, Workbook, handouts.
Procedure
І. Підготовка до сприйняття іншомовного мовлення
1. Introduction . Привітання. Організація класу
T: Good morning, dear children! Nice to see you! How are you today?
Ss: Good morning, our teacher! Nice to see you too! We are fine.
T: Look at each other! Smile at each other! A warm smile will encourage our work.
I want to start our lesson with a popular English proverb : “ East or West ; Home is the best”.
It’s the Motto of our lesson.
T: At the beginning of the lesson I want you to share your expectations.
So, look at the blackboard and guess the topic of our lesson.

T: How do you think what our topic is?
Ss: Cities around the World
T: Yes, that’s right. We’ll do interesting exercises, watch presentation, play with cards and talk
about cities and their famous places.

• Open your books on page 34.
• Point out the words/phrase in the vocabulary section. ( Play the CD a few times and have Ss
point to the corresponding pictures and repeat.)
• Say the words/phrase again in random order and have Ss point and repeat.
Warm-up
( Stick the flashcards of the lesson on the board. Point to each flashcard and say the words aloud.
Encourage Ss to repeat after you. )
Activity 1.
Pre-listening Stage
T: Read the title and look at the pictures of the text and tell what it is going to be about.
Ss; It’s about big cities around the world and their landmarks.
T: Have you ever been to any of these cities.
While-listening Stage
(Play the CD and Ss shadow read along with the CD)
Post-listening Stage
T: I want to ask you some questions about the text:
- Where can you find these cities? (In the USA, in the UK, in France, in China and in Ukraine.)
- What is the capital city of the USA? (Washington, DC.)
- What can you see there? (The White House.)
- What can you see in New York? (The Statue of Liberty.) Is it small? (No. It’s huge.)
- What can you see in Beijing? (The Great Wall of China.)
- Where is the Pearl Tower? (In Shanghai.)
- Is the Elisabeth Tower in London? (Yes, it is.)
- What else can you see in London? (The Big Ben.)
- Where is the Eiffel Tower? (In Paris.)
- What can you see in Kyiv? (The Motherland Monument.)
- Where is the Scherbatov Palace? (In Nemyriv )
