Topic: London is  a capital of Great Britain

Lesson objectives: - to present the new words;

• to practice new vocabulary;
• to develop reading and speaking skills;
• to bring up tolerance and speaking etiquette;

Materials: SB, Cards, flashcards, computer.

Procedure:

I Introduction:

1. Greeting:   - Good afternoon, students!

2. Introduction of the theme of the lesson:

                     -  Today’s lesson is unusual, because we’ll travel to imaginary city. This place is beautiful  and very popular with tourists. Let’s guess what city is it?

• Make the word from the underlined letters.

Block of house, building, house, green   (London )

3. Warming-up: the game “Associations”

II The main part of the lesson:

4. Vocabulary presentation:

• SB ex.1, p.134  Listen, point and repeat
• Make up the word combinations with these words (e.g. a big bridge…)
• The game “ Quick Flash”

5. Reading. SB ex.2, p.134

Pre-reading: - What the most famous places in London do you know?

• Are there any museums in London?
• Are they old or modern?

      Post-reading: Work in groups.

• Answer the questions in your cards. Find the information about London in the text.

I group:

- What is the place where the trains go under the streets?

-  Where can you see the mummies?

-  What can you do in a Hyde Park?

II group:

- What is the Thames?

- What is London?

- What the Tower Bridge can do?

  III Summing up:

       Summary:  - Where did we travel today?

- What interesting places did you learn today?

- Do you know what is the most interesting tour highlight?
