Teacher: Dear students! I’m very glad to see you all at lesson. The theme of our lesson is “Visions of the Future”. You are eleven formers now and I think that everybody of you wants to know about your future beforehand. But I consider if we know about our future it will be not interesting to live. That’s why we can only predict our future, imagine or simply dream about it. At our class hour you have even created the project “How I imagine my future” where you have written about your plans, imaginations and expectations.
ІІ. Операційно-пізнавальний етап. Основна частина уроку.
Teacher: Now we’ll speak about the life in 2050. We’ll touch the main aspects of our life such as:
St 1: I suppose that human relationships will have changed dramatically. We’ll make friends through Internet. What is more a large number of people will even come across their future husbands and wives in this way. But we’ll become much more isolated from each other, because we’ll have little real human contacts.
St 2: Education will have changed a lot. More and more children will be using computers at schools. There will be different computer’s programs for most calculations and writing by hand will have become a thing of the past.
St 3: I hope that the home life will be better. Robots will be doing the house work and we will be eating only ready-made food. A lot of people will cook only for fun. What is more interesting the fridges will be able to order the food if it runs out.
St4: Space exploration will become increasingly popular. I believe that the man will regularly visit Mars and will be flying off for a holiday on the moon.
St5: Frankly speaking I fear pollution will continue to get worse and our planet will become impossible to live on.
St 6: I foresee that one day we’ll have to pay for clean air as we do now for a clean water.
St7: As for genetic engineering I think that scientists will use
Teacher: Open your books at page 48. We’ll listen to the text “Fifty Years On”.

Teacher: Read the following predictions and reasons for life in the future and decide which are optimistic and which are pessimistic. Expand these ideas into complete sentences by joining them with because, as or since.
(Учні діляться на дві групи, використовуючи запропоновані картки з різними тезами, визначають - оптимістичні й песимістичні прогнози щодо життя в 2050 році)
- Pollution level in cities decrease – scientists invent environmentally-friendly cars;
- There be no more rainforests – we cut them all down;
- People live in cities under the sea – normal cities become too crowded;
- People live longer – scientists find cures for many diseases
- We go on holidays to other planets - space travel improve
- We do more creative jobs – computers do the most boring jobs
- More poor people – there are fewer jobs
- Crime increase – more people without works
4. Listening
Teacher: Now you’ll listen the short text about the life 100 years ago, now and in 2100. You have to fill in the gaps on your cards with the words used in the text. For example – A hundred years ago people travelled by horse and carriage or by train. Now we use cars and planes. In 2100, we will be using spaceships and electric cars.

Teacher: I’m very thankful for your active work at the lesson. You were deeply involved and concentrated on what we’ve talked about. Hope this theme was interesting for you and you’ve got some useful information. And now I want you to express the ideas about your personal future. I give you good marks for your answers and wish you good luck.
