Hostess: Good afternoon, dear guests! Welcome to our party! 

Host: Hello, dear students! It is winter now. I like it very much. I think winter is one of the most beautiful seasons of the year. We celebrate the best holidays in it:  Christmas and New Year.

Hostess:  Christmas is on the 25th of December. It is the greatest holiday in Britain and the USA. Traditionally, Christmas festivities lasted 12 days. Yuletide begins in the middle of December and ends on the 6th of January. All children like this wonderful time because it is the time of much fun.

Host: Dear guests! Today is a special day for us; it’s a Christmas Tale Party.

Today you will hear and learn a lot of wonderful things. You’ll sing, play and have fun.

•           Do you like holidays?

Hostess: What is the holiday we celebrate in December and January? (Yes, Christmas and New Year). Do you know when the British and American people celebrate Christmas? Yes, it’s on the 25^th of December. It’s a wonderful and festive day for British and American people.

Host: Christmas is a holiday of old traditions. It’s a day of miracles and gifts, trimming Christmas trees, solemn masses and feasting. It’s a night of family reunions and merry making. And Father Christmas or Santa Claus is coming on his sleigh pulled by reindeer. (Christmas bells)

Hostess: Christmas Eve is the world of a famous Christmas songs which are sung by children all over the world.

Host: Very nice! But not only is this song performed on Christmas. There are special Christmas Carols, which can be heard in churches on Christmas Eve. And one of the most popular is “Silent Night”.

Hostess:  The most popular British carol was supposed to be written at Christmas 1818 by Joseph Mohr, the priest. Listen to this wonderful carol!

Hostess: Now, look at the pictures and name the attributes of Christmas. Match the pictures with the words. (Christmas tree, Christmas cards, carols, Santa Clause, Christmas stockings, Christmas pudding, presents, Christmas dinner)

Host: Well, Christmas dinner is a very wonderful thing. There is a wonderful recipe, and I’d like you to read it, but to do it you need to recall some words, because they are not written, they are drawn.

A Wonderful Recipe

You need to prepare a (bowl), a (knife), two (carrots), some (nuts), some (honey), a (cabbage), three (apples), a little bit (fennel). Peel and slice the (vegetables), cut the (fennel), chop the (nuts), put them into the (bowl) and mix them. Pour some (honey) and mix again. Now you can taste it. Good appetite!

Hostess: We have special guests today. And they will perform a famous Christmas song «Jingle Bells Rock»

Hostess: Do you know who decorated the First Christmas tree?

Host:  No one knows for sure. They say that the custom of bringing an evergreen tree indoors and decorating it at Christmas started in Germany. Watch a video of its history.

(One legend says that Martin Luther started the practice. Luther was an important Christian leader. According to the story, he noticed the starlit sky as he walked home one Christmas Eve about the year 1513. He thought the stars looked as if they were shinning on the Branches. When Martin Luther arrived home, he placed a small fir-tree inside the house. He decorated it with lighted candles. Decorating Christmas Trees became popular in Germany. Prince Albert took the tradition to England. Both German and English people brought it to America.)

Hostess: Christmas tree has come to us. But it’s not decorated yet. Children, let’s decorate it with toys. But each toy has a funny task. Do the tasks and put the toys onto the tree.

Students: (dramatizing jokes)

1. Little Jimmy was visiting his grandfather. In the morning, grandpa decided to make a big pot of porridge.

He puts some porridge into a bowl for Jimmy. “Do you like sugar?” grandpa asked.

“Yes”, said Jimmy.

So, grandpa put sugar on the porridge.

“Do you like milk”?

“Yes”, said Jimmy.

So grandpa put some milk on the porridge.

“Do you like butter”?

“Yes”, said Jimmy.

So grandpa took some butter on the porridge. Then he placed the bowl of porridge in front of Jimmy.

“Yuikk!” said Jimmy.

“What’s the matter? I asked you if you like sugar, milk and butter and you said yes, so I put them on”, said grandpa, getting angry. “You didn’t ask me if I like porridge”, said Jimmy.

 

2) Several women were sitting around, bragging about how smart their dogs are.

“My dog is so smart», said the first one, “that I can send him out to the store for eggs. He sniffs around the boxes and refuses to accept any boxes unless they are fresh.”

“My dog is so smart”, said the second men, “that he goes out for chocolates. And he always comes home with my favourite brand.”

The two men turned to a third man who had been sitting quietly. “Have you ever heard of any dog that is a smart as ours”? , asked the first man.

“Well, only one dog, mine”.

“How is that?”

“My dog manages the store where your dogs go shopping”.

 

3) He: My dog is lost.

    She: Why don’t you put an advertisement in the newspaper?

    He: Silly, that won’t do any good. My dog can’t read.

 

4) “Waiter, is this apple pie or peach pie? It tastes like glue!”

“Well, sir, it’s peach pie, our apple pie tastes like cardboard.”
