Main topic: HOLIDAYS.

The subject: My favourite holiday.

General aim: to build a bridge between two cultures, Ukrainian and British.

Aim of the lesson: making a Christmas decoration – “Accordion Christmas Tree”

Outcomes: pupils will be able to

  •      distinguish the meanings of the words;
  •      demonstrate the ability to talk on this topic;
  •      identify different holidays and select their own favourite holiday;
  •      illustrate the way of celebrating of pupils’ favourite holidays in their families;
  •      discover the way of celebrating the holidays in the UK.

Objectives:

  •      brainstorm pupils’ background from the topic;
  •      introduce new vocabulary;
  •      motivate pupils to study English;
  •      develop skills of speaking, listening, memory, collaboration, critical thinking, creativity;
  •      bring up respectful attitude to friends, to other culture.

The equipment: textbook “English 1” Budna T.B., computer, poster “ABC”, BBC flash-cards «Symbols of Christmas», audio console s67, s68, videos: “Dream English Kids”: “Good morning”, “How are you?”, Super Simple Songs: “We wish you a Merry Christmas!”, the picture of a Christmas tree, toy monkey Smiley, HO1, colour paper, scissors, glue

2) Revision of letters and sounds. Singing the ABC song with sounds

T: He is still sad! I know why he is so sad –  New Year is coming and the New Year tree isn’t decorated. Let’s decorate it this way: match the letters on the balls!

 

T: What a lovely fir-tree we’ve got! But Smiley is still sad. It’s a pity!

T: Now it’s time to play a “Guessing game”. One of you choose the picture, and the rest guesses the holiday, ok?

P: No.

P: Yes.

T: Now, look at the pictures very attentively, remember the pictures and now close your eyes. Open and look! What picture is missing?

Ps: Christmas?

T: No.

Ps: New Year?

T: That’s it. One more time.

4.Take the piece of thread and push it through the hole

5.Stretch the paper

7.Glue it on the top of the tree

8.You can decorate it if you want
