3.1.   Roses are the traditional gift given by the people  in love. Believe it or not, the colour of a rose can be very important. Use your  imagination. Try to guess what  feelings connected with love the following colours of roses express.

Match  the statements with their endings.

Red roses say                        a)    “Thank you”

Light pink  roses express      b)   desire  on the part of the sender.

 Dark pink roses  mean      c) friendship and freedom – so don’t send them if your

                                             Intentions    are  romantic

White  roses    symbolize     d)   farewell.

Orange roses communicate    e) “I love you.” They are the universal symbol of

                                                 romantic love

Yellow  roses                          f)        fun and happiness

Black roses   mean                  g)  innocence and  secrecy.

Now compare your  variants with the following information:

Red roses say “I love you.” They are the universal symbol of romantic love.

Light pink  roses  express  fun and happiness.

Dark pink roses mean “Thank you”

White  roses  symbolize  innocence and  secrecy.

Orange roses communicate desire  on the part of the sender.

Yellow  roses show friendship and freedom – so don’t send them if your intentions are romantic

Black roses mean farewell.

3.2. Oral speech.

 Interview your partner on the following questions:

  1. What kind of boy or girl do you find attractive ?
  2. What are your ideas of a romantic date?
  3. What won’t you tolerate in your boyfriend or girlfriend?
  4. Are you romantic?
  5. What personality should your boyfriend or girlfriend have?

4. While-reading  activity.

4.1. Read the text.

4.2. The text deals with various types of love. Your task is to choose among  the following variants the most suitable one:

  1. true love ;
  2. tender love;
  3. friendly love ;
  4. passionate love ;
  5. jealous love ;
  6. hostile love ;

1….love involves total communication and commitment between two people. It means sharing what one has and what one is with another person. … love motivates two people to help each other have the best life possible.

2….love is happy and satisfying. It is not only beautiful in itself, but  it also increases the loveliness of the people involved. …love makes people feel warm, secure and cheerful.

3….grows trough the years. It is neither passionate, nor hostile and hurting. The people experiencing it are kept together with feelings of mutual respect and understanding. Sometimes true love can be built upon a foundation of … love.

4….love is vigorous, insistent and urgent it centers on sexual relationships of men and women. It can also be selfish, with little concern for the other. By itself, this kind of love is exhausting. Blended with other love forms, it can be exhilarating and fulfilling.

5….love is a possessive love. A jealous lover holds the other person so tightly that the person is cut off from other people. Jealousy is almost always a mark of insecurity.

  1. In…love the emotions of love and hatred are closely related. This tendency to hate those you love involves a feeling of ambivalence – being attracted to and repelled by someone at the same time.
