Objectives:

  • Improve reading, listening, and speaking skills.
  • Develop critical thinking and ability to apply marketing terminology.

PROCEDURE

I. INTRODUCTION

1. Greeting

T: Good afternoon, dear students! How are you? I hope everybody is fine. So let’s start our lesson.

2. Introducing the topic

Today we’ll talk about types of good. It will help you to improve your knowledge of marketing terminology and I hope you will get to know many new interesting things.

II. WARMING UP.

 What types of goods do you usually buy every day?

Which goods do you buy less often?

Today we’ll talk how these goods are classified in marketing.

III. MAIN PART.

Task 1. Vocabulary. Match the terms with their correct definitions.

Task 1 is to match the terms with their correct definitions. Firstly, let’s write this new vocabulary and think about translation. Give examples of each type.

Terms:

  1. Consumer goods
  2. Industrial goods
  3. Convenience goods
  4. Shopping goods
  5. Specialty goods
  6. Unsought goods
  7. Durable goods
  8. Non-durable goods
  9. Luxury goods
  10. Necessities

Definitions:
a. Products that last for a long time and are used repeatedly.
b. Items required for basic human survival, such as food and water.
c. Goods that buyers do not usually think of buying or do not know about.
d. Products purchased by individuals for personal use.
e. Products used in the production of other goods or services.
f. High-end products that are not essential but associated with prestige.
g. Goods bought quickly and with little comparison, like snacks.
h. Items that do not last long and are consumed quickly.
i. Products that consumers compare carefully on suitability, price, and quality.
j. Unique items with special characteristics that buyers make an effort to purchase.

Task 2. Reading. The Types of Goods.

Task 2 is to read the text and decide what statements are true and what are false.

Text:
Goods can be divided into several categories. Consumer goods are bought for personal use, while industrial goods are used to produce other products. Consumer goods include convenience goods, shopping goods, specialty goods, and unsought goods. Convenience goods are bought frequently with little effort. Shopping goods require more time for comparison. Specialty goods are unique and consumers are willing to make extra effort to buy them. Unsought goods are products consumers do not normally think about until needed. Goods can also be divided into durable and non-durable. Durable goods last for a long time, such as cars or furniture, while non-durable goods are consumed quickly, like food and drinks. Another important distinction is between necessities and luxury goods. Necessities are essential for survival, while luxury goods provide comfort and status.
