Chrismas

Christmas is a very important time in the Christmas year, but also for those who do not go to church. It's a holiday to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ a time for giving present and being with family. People start to get ready for Christmas in late October or early November. They buy Christmas trees and decorate them, send cards to friends and families. Many children have Advent calendars with little doors for each day until Christmas. In Britain many people have parties at school or at work.

The Christmas Holiday starts with 24 December- Christmas Eve. The main Christmas dinner is on Christmas Day - 25 December. Christmas dinner is usually in the afternoon and is the biggest meal of the day. It is usually turkey and lots of vegetables, some minced pies or a Christmas pudding. This is the favourite day for all children. They wake up very early in the morning to find their stockings and see what Santa Clause put there for them. Family presents are opened either late morning or during the afternoon. The family gather together to open the presents found under the Christmas tree. Many people go to church to sing carols and to celebrate the birth of Jesus. More people attend the church on this day than any other day of the year. Traditionally on Christmas at three o'clock in the afternoon the Queen says "Happy Christmas" to everyone. King George V began this custom in 1932. In the evening people eat cold meat and Christmas cake or fruit and nuts.
