I've always been interested in typhoons, mainly because I live in the Philippines and we get affected by strongwinds very often. As you probably know, a typhoon is a mature tropical cyclone that is common to the western part of the North Pacific Ocean. Although there are no official typhoon seasons, we can tell when a tropical cyclone is likely to hit. It's such an important issue that even children in the Philippine schoolslearn aboutthe requirements fortyphoon formation. The cyclone develops when six criteria are met: when the surface ofthe sea heats up, the temperature ofthe airfluctuates, the air is humid, there's a low front, the winds are not horizontal and there's enough Coriolis force. Here, in the Philippines, we receive the worst part ofthe cyclone force, which all the past incidents confirmed,so it comes as no surprise that the island makes all the efforts to protect itselffrom the disastrous effects ofthe winds and torrential rain. However,from whatI can see, there's little that people can do to save their houses and lives. Such is the power ofthe cyclone that all one can do is observe the changing weather, issue warnings and evacuate the area in time, well atleastin my humble opinion. Houses won't be rescued but human beings will survive.
