Lesson Plan
Topic: “City”
Level PRE-INTERMEDIATE
Aims: 1) to develop skills of using names of buildings and places around the city in speech;
2) to develop speaking skills;
3) to develop memory, logical thinking, critical thinking, creativity, attention;
4) to bring up respectful attitude to other students, tolerance in cooperation.
Equipment: pictures buildings and places around the city, board games, handouts, video, laptop, whiteboard.
Procedure.
T: Let`s start with naming the pictures of city buildings and places. Name the picture and say like this: There is a cathedral behind my school.
II. Main body.
Activity 1: “Matching 1, 2” (pair work)
T: You have 5 min to match all the places and words of the buildings and places. Let`s see who is the fastest.
Activity 2: “Word search” (pair work)
T: Now try to find all words to name the places in the city. You have only 5 min to complete the task.
Activity 3: “Riddles” (pair work)
T: Here is a real challenge. You have to solve the riddles and name the places. Be as fast as you can to score more.
Activity 4: song “Welcome to my city”
Activity 5: dialogue “Giving directions”(pair work)
T: You often need to go somewhere around the city. So, let`s make up the dialogues to find the way around.
T: Now, when we have checked all dialogues up act them up.
Activity 6: game “Getting around the city”(pair work)
T: Now we`ll have the greatest fun. Take pictures of the buildings and places around the city and put them on this big table. It should look like a scheme of the city. Take the figures of the toy-boy and toy-girl and walk around, asking the way.
T: Explanation of the home assignment. Students should write down the route from their home to school. Assessment of every student`s work.
