Objectives :
-to develop pupils’ communicative skills;
-to revise and systematize lexical material related to the topic;
-to practice ‘There is/ there are’;
-to improve pupils’ listening, speaking and writing skills;
-to teach pupils to co-operate in group work;
-to develop pupils’ teamwork, independent work, creative thinking and respect to each other.
Equipment: flash-cards, handouts, a cassette-recorder, topical pictures.
PROCEDURE
T: Good afternoon, children! How are you ?
Ps: We are fine, thank you. And you?
T: I’m fine too, thanks. I’m glad to see you.
T: Today we’ll continue our talk about seasons and nature.In fact, it’ll be our summing-up lesson on the subject.
T: Now we’ll see how quickly you can answer my questions:
What season is it now ?
P1: It’s winter now.
T: What month is it now ?
P2: It’s December.
T: What day is it today ?
P3: Today is Thursday .
T: What date is it today ?
P4: The twenty-first of December.
T: How many days are there is December ? Who knows ?
P5: There are thirty-one days in December.
T: How many seasons are there in a year ? And what are they ?
P6: There are four seasons in a year. They are autumn, winter, spring and summer.
T: What are autumn months ?
P7: The autumn months are September, October and November.
T: What are winter months?
P8: They are December, January and February.
T: What are spring months?
P9: The spring months are March, April and May.
T: What are summer months ?
P10: They are June, July and August.
T: What is the weather like today ?
P11:The weather is fine (bad) today. The sun is shining.(It`s gloomy). It`s snowy, it isn`t windy. The temperature is…degrees above (below) zero.
Speaking about seasons
T: Let`s speak about your favourite season. Everyone must tell about his/her favourite season and explain why it is so. Is it clear? So, let`s start.
P1: My favourite season is summer, because we don`t go to school. We have the longest holidays. The weather is usually fine.
P2: I like summer, too, because the days are long and we can be outdoors all day long. There are many flowers, vegetables, fruit, berries. And we can go to the seaside.
P3: My favourite season is winter, because I can skate and sledge , play snowballs, make a snowman.
P4: I like winter, because there are many holidays in this season. The leaves in the trees are different colours: green , yellow , orange, red and brown.
P6: I like autumn because it’s a “tasty” season. There are lot of vegetables and fruit. My mother tinned vegetables and we can eat them on cold winter days.
P7: My favourite season is spring, because nature awakens from her long winter sleep. The days get longer. It grows warmer . The leaves become green. The birds come back from warm countries.

T: I’m going to throw this ball to you and say some words in English on the topic and your task is to say them in Russian and then the other way round. You may recite a poem about seasons if you like. Let’s start.
