Objectives: to enrich pupils vocabulary on the topic “Features of character”, to develop their skills in listening, reading speaking and writing, to bring up friendly relations between the pupils.
TEACHER: I can talk with a friend
And walk with a friend,
And share my umbrella in the rain.
I can play with a friend
And stay with a friend,
And learn with a friend
And explain.
I can eat with a friend
And compete with a friend,
And even sometimes disagree.
I can ride with a friend
And take pride with a friend,
A friend can mean so much to me!
(Vivian Gouled)
TEACHER: Good afternoon, my friends! May I call you so? I hope that each of you is my friend because I love and respect you. I know you have got a lot of good friends, but have you got any true and devoted ones? In your opinion, who is a true friend? What is real friendship? By the end of the lesson we will try to answer these questions.
PUPIL: I have a friend. He understands
All of my problems, always helps.
I’m sure we are close friends –
We spend together our days,
We sing and play, go for a walk,
Listen to music, read and talk.
TEACHER: Look at the mind map and say what a true friend is.
A true friend is cheerful
kind
sensitive
unfailing
honest
generous
reliable
tolerant
unselfish, etc.
(The pupils are divided into groups of 4 or 5)
TEACHER: Read the proverbs and think over their meaning and guess their equivalents in the Ukrainian language.
A friend in need is a friend indeed.
A faithful friend is a medicine of life.
They are rich who have true friends.
False friends are worse than open enemies.
Prosperity makes friends, adversity tries them.
A friend’s eye is a good mirror.
A friend to all is a friend to none.
A man is known by the company he keeps.
Once upon a time there lived a Dog. One day he came to the King’s Elephant. He was very hungry and wanted to eat very much. In several months the Elephant and the Dog became close friends. The Elephant shared his food with the Dog and they ate together very often. When the Elephant wanted to play, he caught the dog in his trunk and swung him to and from. They were very happy together.
One day a farmer saw the dog and asked the elephant – keeper, “How much do you want for the dog? I want to buy him. He looks very clever. ” The elephant – keeper wanted a lot of money and the farmer paid it. He took the Dog with him to the village. When the time to eat came to the King Elephant, he didn’t eat. He was very sad because there wasn’t his friend with him. He didn’t want to eat, to bathe and to play for a long time.
One day the King came to the elephant – keeper’s house and asked him, “Why is the Elephant so sad? Where is his friend?” The elephant – keeper answered that the farmer had bought the Dog and took him away to the village. And nobody knew where the farmer lived.
“Very well”, said the King. “My servants will find the farmer and ask him to give the dog back.”
The King’s servants announced his decision to the people in the country. The farmer heard about the King’s will and brought the dog back. The Dog ran back as fast as he could to the Elephant’s stable.
The Elephant was very happy to see the Dog. He picked him up with his trunk and placed him on his head. Then he said to the King, “We’ll live together for the rest of our days. Thank you very much!”
