Lesson focus: Vocabulary building and guided writing
 

 

Objectives:

By the end of the lesson, learners will be able to:

• iIdentify and use new vocabulary related to the Carpathians.
• Write a short guided paragraph about a trip to the Carpathians.
• Develop confidence in writing simple descriptive sentences.

 

1. Warm-up

Activity: Word Storm

Teacher writes the word “mountains” on the board.

Learners say words that come to their minds when they hear "mountains" (trees, snow, hiking, animals, cold).

Teacher writes the words around “mountains” to create a word map.

Ask: “Have you ever been to the Carpathians?” “What do you know about them?”

 

2. Lead-in

Activity: Short visual presentation

Show 3–4 pictures of the Carpathians (landscape, huts, hiking, rivers).

Ask guiding questions:

“What can you see in the pictures?”

“Would you like to go there? Why?”

 

3. Tasks with new vocabulary

Target vocabulary: mountain, forest, river, animals, hike, camp, waterfall, wooden house

Task 1: Match and Learn

Learners match words with corresponding pictures.

Task 2: Sentence Builder

Fill in the blanks:

We went on a long ______ through the forest.

There was a big ______ near our house.

At night, we sat next to a ______ and sang songs.

Optional Game: Simon Says using actions related to the vocabulary (e.g., hike, climb, look at the waterfall, sit by the fire).

 

4. Writing Task

Task: Write a short paragraph titled "My Trip to the Carpathians" (5–6 sentences)
Instructions:

Use at least 4 new words.

Include what you saw, what you did, and how you felt.

Writing Frame (support on the board):

Last weekend, I went to the Carpathians.

I saw...

I went...

The weather was...

I felt... because...

 

5. Homework

Task: Draw a picture of your dream trip to the Carpathians and write 3–4 sentences to describe it using new words from the lesson.
(Example: I want to see the mountains. I will go hiking. I will live in a wooden house.)

 

6. Feedback and Reflection

Activity: Exit Tickets

Learners write one thing they liked and one new word they learned today on a sticky note.

Teacher collects and reads a few aloud.
