Mаin part
To welcome newcomers and to get students know each other better, play the following games.
1.Bingo game Names
Procedure: 1) Print out a Bingo Board with the names of the students for each student in the class (App.1)
2) Write the names on small pieces of paper and put them in a bag or a hat.
3) Afterwards, play ‘bingo’ by calling out names randomly – students tick a name if they have it on their own grid.
4) For each name, have that person stand up so everyone can see them, say their name and some interesting fact about themselves:
- My name is … and I like… / can…
5) When someone completes their grid with nine ticks – they win. (But you could always play it again!)
2. Game Find someone who….
Each student gets a card with the task: Find someone who…. They should write down the names of students while moving around the classroom searching.
Sample tasks: Find someone who… (App.2)
When the teacher gives the signal, students stop and take their seats. Every student reports about the results of his/her search.
3.Game Lineup
Ask students to line up according to their first name. All the way on the left is A and all the way on the right will be Z.
Ask students to line up according to birthdates. Revise the names of months before completing this task (optional)
Ask students to line up according to height (optional)
Besides getting to know each other, this game is also great to see who is a leader, or who is active and who is passive in these situations.
4.Reading
Let students read the poem and answer the question What time is coming? (Draw their attention to the first letters of the first words in each line - School)
App.3
Summer is over,
Cool time is coming.
Here we are together again!
One is happy and smiling,
One is worried and shy.
Let`s start but not complain!
The suggested answer is School time is coming.
5. Revising vocabulary on the topic ‘School things’
Tell students to think over the items we use while studying. Listen to the chant and repeat the words together:
