Warm-up (5 min) |

Split students into pairs and ask them to think of ways to manage their digital footprint. The students make three suggestions for the rest of the class. |

Pre-task Instructions (10 min) |

(Handout 1) Split students into pairs, distribute the handouts, and ask them to copy and complete the questions with the missing vocabulary. Check the answers as a class, then ask students to discuss the questions in pairs. |

Task (10 min) |
|
|
Task: your friend has recently got a smartphone and has started browsing the internet and using social media. You are concerned that he is not aware of the risks of leaving a digital footprint online. Write a short text message to him, explaining what a digital footprint is and how to manage it safely. Students work in groups to create a message. Monitor their group activities and scaffold them if any difficulties arise by prompting useful phrases/vocabulary. |
