Weather

When the weather is wet We must not fret.

When the weather is cold,

We must not scold.

When the weather is warm, We must not storm,

But be joyful together Whatever the weather

The golden sunset

(by Henry Longfellow) The golden sea its mirror spreads Beneath the golden shies

And but a narrow strip between On land and shadows lies.

The cloud like roclcs, the rock lilce clouds Dissolved in glory float,

And midway of the radiant flood, Hangs silently the boat.

Autumn fires

(by R. L. Stevenson) In the other gardens,

And all up the vale,

From the autumn bonfires See the smolce trail!

Pleasant summer's over And all the summer flowers, The red fire flazes,

The gray smolce towers. Sing a song of seasons! Something bright in all! Flowers in the summer, Fires in the fall!

She walks in beauty

I.

She wallcs in Beauty, lime the night Of cloudless climes and starry shies And all that's best of dark and bright Meet in your aspect and her eyes:

Thus mellowed to that tender light Which heaven to gaudy day denies.

II.

One shade the more, one ray the less, Had half impaired the nameless grace Which waves in every rosen trees,

Or softly lightens o'er her face:

Where thoughts serenely sweet express, How pure, how dear their dwelling place.

The song of Hiawatha (Extract)

I.

In the vale of Tawasentha

In the green and silent valley By the pleasant water — courses, Dwelt he singer Nawa daha, Round about the Indian village

Spread the meadows and corn fields And beyond them stood the forest,

Stood the groves of shining pine trees, Green in the summer, white in winter, Ever sighing ever singing.

II.

And the pleasant water courses,

You could trace them through the valley By the rushing in the spring time,

Be the alders in the summer By the white fog in the autumn By the blaclc line in the winter

And beside them dwelt the singer In the vale of Tawasentha,

In the green and silent valley.

III.

There he sang of Hiawatha Sang the song of Hiawatha,

Sang his wondrous birth and being, How he prayed and how he fasted, How he lived and toiled and suffered, That the tribes of men might prosper, That he might advance his people!

All the world's a stage

All the world's a stage

And all the men and women Merely players:

They have their exits and their entrances, And one man in his time

Plays many parts,

His acts being seven ages. At first the infant,

Mewling and pulling in the nurse's arms. And then the whining school boy, With his satchel

And shining morning face, Creeping lilce snail

Unwillingly to school. And then the lover, Sighing lilce furnace, with woeful ballad

Made to his mistress’ eyebrow. Then a solider, Full of strange oaths, and bearded like the pard, Gealous in honour, sudden and quiclc in quarrel Seelcing the bubble reputation

Even in the cannon's mouth. And then the justice.

In fair round belly with good capon lin'd , With eyes severe, and beard of formal cut, Full of wise saws and modern instances; And so he plays his part.

The sixth age shifts into the Lean and s1ipper'd pantaloon,

With spectacles on nose and pouch on side, His youthful hose well sav’d, a world too wide For his shrunlc shanlc; and his big manly voice, Turning again toward childish treble, pipes And whistles in his sound.

Last scene of all

That ends this strange Eventful history,

Is second childishness and mere oblivion,

Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything
