Folk art

Objectives:

  • to broaden and to expand student’s vocabulary;
  • to revise previously taught vocabulary;
  • to improve students’ vocabulary skills;
  • to focus students on talking about Ukrainian Folk art, architecture and painting;
  • to develop students’ personal and social skills;
  • to activate linguistic guess;
  • to provide a stable and welcoming atmosphere in the class;
  • to develop self-esteem and mutual esteem;
  • to encourage students’ interest in art;
  • to form students’ artistic tastes.

Outcomes: by the end of the lesson students will be able:

  • to talk about folk art;
  • to compare different points of view;
  • to distinguish the necessity of objects of art in our life.
  • to give definitions of the words.

 

Procedure

1. Warm-up

Ex.1 p.65

Read and say if you agree with these statements.

If there is light in the soul,

There will be beauty in the person.

If there is beauty in the person,

There will be harmony in the house.

If there is harmony in the house,

There will be order in the nation.

If there is order in the nation,

There will be peace in the world.

Discuss. Present the results of your discussion to the classmates.

1. What genres of painting do you know?

2. What world-famous painters do you know?

3. What does a painter use to create a picture?

Listen and read the new words and their definitions. Make some sentences with these words.

8. What other kinds of Ukrainian folk art haven’t been mentioned yet? Name them.
