Topic:London

Aims:

• explore and practice the topic related lexis
• devise listening skills in hearing specific information
• practise oral speech on the basis of the corresponding topic involving grammar structures and vocabulary while speaking
• train pupils working with a text for finding mistakes
• promote to appreciate cultures of other countries and be polite in the street

Procedure

1)Introduction

-organizing time

•   greeting time, preparing students for active work, telling the topic and goals, writing the date

-warm up

activate pupils’ speaking skills in describing themselves:

• What is your name? Where are you from? Where do you live?

2)Main part

 1/  Listening

Pre-listening

Pupils work with pictures on the blackboard. They repeat words after a teacher, after that a teacher shows a picture and pupils name it

While-listening

   Pupils listen and try to guess the correct answer

• You can use it when you must cross the river.
• Kings and queens live in that big house
• It is a train under the ground
• This place is in the center of the town
•        You will see what time is it  if you look at it

Post listening

Pupils train to use the structure ‘I like…’ They choose one place and say what they like.

2/ Reading

 Pre-reading

Pupils write down capital words and then fill the gaps in sentences:

London,    the Thames,    Bib Ben,    Tube,    Westminster Abbey

• ____ is the city.
• ___ is the river.
• _____ is a clock.
• _____is the underground.
• ____is a church.

While-reading

Pupils read the text and answer: “What is the Tower Bridge nowdays?”

The Tower of London

 The Tower of London is a very old building in London. It is nine hundred years old. The Tower of London stands on the river Thames.

The English kings lived in the Tower many years ago. Now the Tower of London is a museum. The English people like it very much. Many people from other countries come to London to see it. They see the dark stone halls with small windows and thick doors. The walls of the Tower are five metres thick. In the museum they can see many old guns.

At ten o’clock every evening the guards lock the big doors of the Tower of London for the night.

Post-reading

Pupils lok through the text and count how many times do we read ‘London’? (6times).

Breaking time

‘I can swim 1,2,3…’ ‘I can go 1,2,3,4 …’

 ‘I can fly 1,2,3,4,5… “I can train 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8.

4/ Writing

Pre-writing

Pupils  read the text again and write down the underline words (

While-writing

Pupils repeat structure ‘There is /There are’. They write the sentences as in an example

There is an old building.

    There are many countries in the world.

3)Summary

Analysis of students’ progress, assessment. Hometask : learn new words
