TEXT: “Ukrainian Flowers and Their Meanings”
Ukraine is a country of colorful traditions. Many flowers in Ukraine are more than just plants – they are important national symbols.
The sunflower is one of the most famous Ukrainian symbols. It means warmth, life, and energy. Ukrainians grow sunflowers everywhere.
The poppy is a symbol of memory. It reminds us of those who fought for freedom.
Kalyna, or viburnum, is a symbol of beauty and love. It appears in songs, embroidery, and folk stories.
Periwinkle is a symbol of eternal life. People often plant it near homes.
The blue cornflower means peace and purity. Ukrainian girls used to weave it into wreaths.
These flowers show the soul of Ukraine.

It can help people when they are ill - the leaves and bark are widely used in medicine. There are many legends, poems, songs, sayings and proverbs about the willow.

T. There are many legends, poems, songs, say- ings and proverbs about the snowball and the wil- low. I'd like to propose to you some sayings about these Ukrainian symbols. I'll give you some cards I and you'll match the Ukrainian sayings with the English equivalents:
Group 1. «A snowball»
1. Choose a girl like a snowball flower.
2. Admire a snowball while it's blossoming, and a child while he's growing baby.

So, children we, now, got a lot of interesting information about such Ukrainian plant symbols as a snowball and a willow, but do you know any songs or poems about these symbols? If you know, let's sing and recite poems.

P2. My teacher helped me to translate into Eng- lish a poem «Our Dwelling» («рідна хата») and I want to recite it:
