Міжнародні іспити з англійської мови. Гендерний фактор у навчанні.Практика в обміні думками на основі прочитаного.

Мета:

  • Перевірити рівень опанування учнями теми «Шкільне життя Міжнародні іспити з англійської мови. Гендерний фактор у навчанні» , їхнє вміння говорити на задану тему.
  • Продовжити вчити учнів вживати лексичні одиниці з теми в усному та писемному мовленні, розпізнавати на слух, одержувати основну інформацію з   прослуханого, прочитаного, обмінюватись інформацією; розширити уявлення учнів про роль іноземних мов у нашому житті. міжнародні іспити,можливості навчання закордоном.    
  • Розвивати й вдосконалювати навички усного мовлення, кмітливість, здібності до порівняння, логічного викладу думок.
  • Сприяти розвитку толерантності при спілкуванні , заохочувати учнів до  вивчення англійської мови.

Обладнання:  комп’ютер, мультимедійний проектор, схеми та презентаційні слайди.

PROCEDURE

І. INTRODUCTION. ( 2 minutes)

T: Good morning, children! I’m glad to see you! 

(Watching flash video  about learning of foreign languages ).

T: What do you think, children, why have I chosen this video?

S: This video is very suitable for the topic of our lesson!

T:  Because  as we learn foreign language we have to know what for it is!So,

welcome to our unusual lesson that is about   School life. International Exams in English. Gender Stereotypes in School !

 Do you agree with  the words :

Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”
   Nelson Mandela  ( Slide 1)

S: Yes, I agree!I also remember the proverb  A child without education, is like a bird without wings.

T: O’K! It’ll be the slogan of our lesson! Today we’ll continue to embrace our knowledge.

T:As you remember , I told you today’s  lesson will be unusual! I’d like to say  recently I was introduced to a foreigner, she is also a teacher of English. So ,please, let’s watch the video and be ready to answer my questions!

Hello!Boys and girls ! I;m…I’m from…I live in Kryvyi Rih now.

I know that you are clever pupils, you like learning English.So,  I’ll ask you some questions during your lesson and then I’ll offer some of you   studying abroad.

T: One minute, please! So, children, what is this woman name? What is she?

Where is she from and where does she live now?

What is she going to tell you about? So, Madelyn, let’s continue!

Madelyn: Are you ready? My first question. Could you ,please , answer why do you need to learn foreign languages?(…) Pupils tell about the role of F. L. in our life

  • In what countries is English the first language?

Role-Play  “Studio”                                                                                                                                         

T: Let’s imagine we are at the studio of  TV show “The Point Of View”. I propose to begin our conversation on the topic  THE CASE OF COEDS

The point is PROS and CONS education in coeds and single-sex schools  .

T: So! Let’s divide in two groups and try to help this girl! Give your ideas!

First of all let’s revise the rules of the discussion ( Slide 15,16)

- we think the game who likes who , who is cool and who is not is really important in coeds schools. It’s not “cool”to be excited about school! So, the results in studying are better in single-sex classes

-We are sure that the discipline at the lessons and during the brakes is better  in single –sex school,for there is no distraction, for example ,for girls if there are no boys!

-I don’t agree with you !I can say when I was in the 9th form I liked one boy and I was afraid to answer at the lessons . Now when he isn’t in our class I think I try to study better! So I’m sure it’s an argument!

-You will agree that in single-sex schools  boys have more opportunities to develop the talents, they become more interested in drama, languages,t ake part in the school concerts and parties

Group2Pros

- 1.If you want , I can say I study in almost single – sex class.Since we are the pupils of the 10th form there is only one boy in it. But I can’t say all the girls began to study better!The results are the same!

-2.Look here , please ! We have made a  research and now are ready to introduce the results to you!      1.So!here you can see General Certificate of Secondary Education results of boys and girls, the pupils of the 9-A form! Red colour –for   girls and blue-for boys.

-2.And here you see last year results! We have only one boy in class Let’s see! We can’t say the girls became more successful in study . The difference isn’t great!

- As for discipline! Girls sometimes argue more often than boys. So it is not the argument we think!

-We are at school for 11 years , then a real life will go on! And in real life men and women live together. So, as we live in society, I’m sure it’s important to get to used to each other since childhood!

 

T: So, dear boys and girls, and guests of the studio, let’s make a conclusion! Will you agree with me if I say the main thing is to study hard and understand that knowledge is a great power, which open new horizons to us!?

Madelyn: I liked your discussion! I’d like to say I also studied at coeducational school and I agree with the idea that as we live in the society boys and girls must go to school together!

T:Madelyn, did you like our lesson, what do you think about the work of our pupils?

M: I see most of the pupils were really active and have very good language skills . I remember Lolita, Lera, Kate, Maria … a lot of pupils!

As for my surpise! Do you know , that FLEX programme is taking place in Ukraine now!Last  Saturday it was in Kryvyi Rih! You can take part in it  and if you pass your exam in English you’ll have a chance to continue your study in the USA! Good luck to you and good bye!

 III. Summing-Up. ( 5 minutes)

T: So! Who was the most skillful today and what  marks have you got?

  • Now I know…( that  we need foreign language to communicate with people from other countries,  we can even pass international exams in English, it doesn’t matter what type of school you study , you have to work hard!. I remember such mottos, quotes … and I agree with his words)
  • The lesson was ( wasn’t) interesting because…(The lesson was really interesting because were felt ourselves in the real studio, discussed on  the role of learning of Foreign languages in our life, сoeducational and single-sex schools, watched  the video, communicated with a native speaker of English worked in groups)

IV. Home Assignment.Prepare your own report about the role of foreign languages  in our life , your own presentations, revise lexical and grammar material .
