Grade 4 Lesson Plan: Our House

Learning Outcomes:

-  Identify and use vocabulary related to di erent parts of a house and its surroundings (balcony, flat, block of flats, yard, flowerbed, behind, upstairs, downstairs).

-  Understand and apply the rule for using "there is" in sentences describing objects and locations in a house.

Materials Needed:

-  Pictures or diagrams of houses and apartments

-  Flashcards with vocabulary words

-  Text about house (ex. 2 p. 33)

-  Whiteboard and markers

-  Wordwall (online lesson)

Lesson Outline:

Introduction (10 minutes):

Greet the students and introduce the topic of the lesson: "Our House."

Show pictures or diagrams of di erent types of houses and apartments, highlighting key vocabulary like balcony, flat, block of flats, yard, flowerbed, behind, upstairs, downstairs.

Review any previously learned vocabulary related to houses.

Vocabulary Exploration (15 minutes):

Use flashcards to teach and practice pronunciation of the new vocabulary words.

Engage students in a quick brainstorming session where they think of examples or describe features of houses using the new words.

Have students match pictures of houses with the corresponding vocabulary words.

Text and Grammar Activity (20 minutes):

Provide a short text ex. 2 p. 33. Include examples of the new vocabulary words and the use of "there is"

Read the text aloud as a class, emphasizing pronunciation and comprehension.

Have students identify and underline instances of "there is" in the text.

Guide a discussion on the use of "there is" to describe objects and locations in a house (singular form).

Group Activity: House Description (20 minutes):

Divide students into small groups and provide each group with a picture of a house or apartment.

In their groups, students create sentences using "there is" to describe what they see in the picture (e.g., "There is a balcony on the second floor," "There is a

flowerbed in the yard," etc.).

Encourage groups to use as many vocabulary words as possible in their descriptions.

Each group presents their description to the class, and classmates can ask questions about their descriptions.

Wrap-Up and Review (10 minutes):

Review the key vocabulary words and the rule for using "there is" in sentences.

Ask students to summarize what they learned about houses and using the new vocabulary in sentences.

Assign a simple homework task, such as drawing a picture of their own house and writing sentences to describe it using the vocabulary and grammar rules learned in class.

Assessment: Assess students' understanding through their participation in activities, their ability to correctly use vocabulary words and the "there is" rule in sentences, and their completion of the homework task.

Homework: Learn new words and a rule. Do ex. 1 p. 21 (wb) in written form.
