Їжа. Я люблю фрукти

Lesson plan

Topic: Food.

Microtopic: Fruit

Objectives:

  • To teach and practice new vocabulary items.
  • To introduce questions “What’s this?’ ‘Is it?’
  • Introduce English to young learners. 
  • Learning outcomes : By the end of the lesson  young learners will be able  to use vocabulary on the topic.

Vocabulary:      a pineapple, an apple, an orange, a banana, grapes, a lemon, juice.

Grammar items: presentation of  a/an + foods.

Materials to be used: Interactive board, Power Point presentation, flashcards.

 

Procedure:

  1. Warm up

Revision.  

  Pupils sing the song:

 

Carrots are yummy,

Carrots are nice,

Carrots are yummy,

Carrots I like,

Carrots are yummy,

Carrots are nice,

Carrots I like,

 

Beans are yummy,

Beans are nice,

Beans are yummy,

Beans I like,

Beans are yummy,

Beans are nice,

Beans are yummy,

Beans I like,

 

Peas are yummy,

Peas are nice,

Peas are yummy,

Peas I like,

Peas are yummy,

Peas are nice,

Peas are yummy,

Peas I like

II.  Presentation of new material.

  1. Teach the six food words without the definite article, e.g. banana, apple.
  2. Tell pupils to say an apple, an orange. (There is no need to explain at this stage why this two words take an). Do choral and individual repetition.
  3. Hold up the five flashcards in turn. Pupils say a pineapple, an apple, an orange, a banana, grapes, a lemon. Do choral and individual repetition.
  4. Play a guessing game with the flashcards asking and answering “Is it (an) (apple)?” “Yes/No”.

III. Practice of new material.

  1. Practice Vocabulary: The Game “What’s Missing?”
  • The teacher displays the flashcards from the vocabulary set on the board. She points to each one in turn for pupils to say the words. The teacher gives the class a few seconds to look at them at them.
  • Pupils turn around and the teacher removes a card.
  • The teacher displays the cards again and asks “What’s missing?” When pupils have
    identified the missing card, the teacher shuffles the cards again and repeats the procedure.

 

 

 

 

  1. Practice the dialogue.

 

Explain the word lunch (if you wish, you can also teach the word juice). Ask 2 pupils to come to the front of the class. Give Pupil A two flashcards: an apple, and an orange. Give Pupil B two flashcards: grapes, a banana. The 2 pupils act out a dialogue as follows.

  • Pupil A: This is my lunch. An apple and an orange. Mmmm!
  • Pupil B: This is my lunch. Grapes and a banana. Mmmm!

Repeat with different pupils and different combinations of flashcards.

 

IV. Summarizing.

 

Finish the lesson by singing the song “I like fruits”:

 

I like bananas,

I like watermelon,

I like plums

And cherries too,

 

I like oranges,

I like apples,

I like plums

And cherries too.
