Canada is a country, consisting of ten provinces and three territories, in the northern part of the continent of North America.

The land now called Canada has been inhabited for millennia by various Aboriginal peoples. Beginning in the late 15th century, British and French colonies were established on the region's Atlantic coast.

Canada's two official languages are English and French. 57.8 percent speak English only, 22.1 percent speak French only, and 17.4 percent speak both.

The United States of America (USA), commonly referred to as the United States (U.S.) or America, is a federal republic composed of 50 states, a federal district, five major territories and various possessions.

English (American English) is the de facto national language. Although there is no official language at the federal level, some laws—such as U.S. naturalization requirements—standardize English. About 80% of the population aged five years and older, speak only English at home. Spanish, spoken by 12% of the population at home, is the second most common language and the most widely taught second language. Some Americans advocate making English the country's official language, as it is in 28 states.

Australia officially the Commonwealth of Australia, is an Oceanian country comprising the mainland of the Australian continent, the island of Tasmania, and numerous smaller islands.

Although Australia has no official language, English has always been entrenched as the de facto national language. Australian English is a major variety of the language with a distinctive accent and lexicon, and differs slightly from other varieties of English in grammar and spelling. General Australian serves as the standard dialect. English is the only language spoken in the home for close to 81% of the population.

New Zealand is an island country in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. The country geographically comprises two main landmasses – that of the North Island, and the South Island – and numerous smaller islands.

English is the predominant language in New Zealand, spoken by 98 percent of the population. New Zealand English is similar toAustralian English and many speakers from the Northern Hemisphere are unable to tell the accents apart.

Great Britain, also known as Britain, is an island in the North Atlantic off the north-west coast of continental Europe. It is the largest island in Europe and the ninth-largest in the world. The island is part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, constituting most of its territory: most of England, Scotland, and Wales are on the island, with their respective capital cities, London, Edinburgh, and Cardiff.

The de facto official language of the United Kingdom is English, which is spoken by 98% of the county's population. he second-most spoken language in the United Kingdom was Scots, followed by Polish, an immigrant language. The fourth most-spoken language—Welsh—is an official language in Wales, the only de jure official language in any part of the UK. There are three other living languages indigenous to the country, Scottish Gaelic, Irish, and Cornish, various regional dialects, and numerous languages spoken by recent immigrant populations and those who have learnt them as second languages.
