The Amendments1791 – the first ten amendments (the Bill of Rights)17 additional amendments were added later. Amendment 13 (1865) prohibited slavery. Amendment 15 (1870) gave voting rights to all citizens. Amendment 19 (1920) gave voting rights to women. Amendment 26 (1971) lowered voting age to 18
