Mykhailivska Square, named after the St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Monastery it locates by, was formed in XII c. and is considered as one of the oldest in Kiev. Arising above Maidan Nezalezhnosti, opposite Sofiivska Square, it is included in all the tourists’ routes and is truly the must-visit place of Kyiv.
The House with Chimeras is one of the most famous buildings in Kyiv built in 1902–1903 by polish architect Vladislav Gorodetsky. Mermaids, frogs, dolphins, eagles, elephants, mystical and real creatures decorate the facade of the Art Nouveau building. The address is 10, Bankova Street.
Today, the Kyiv Opera Company performs at the National Opera House of Ukraine named after Taras Shevchenko in Kyiv. More than fifty operas and ballets are included in the theater repertoire. The Kyiv Opera House was constructed by outstanding architect Victor Schroeter at the intersection of two busy roads in 1901.
