About Myself and My Family

I want to tell you about my family and myself. My name is … . I am … and I’m a pupil of the fourth form now. I like to go to school very much because every day we learn something new at the lessons. My favourite lessons are … and … . I have many friends at school. We often play different games and go for a walk together. We have many parties after lessons.

My family is small (not very large). I live with my father, mother and … . We live in … Street.

My mother’s name is … . She is … . My mother is the nicest woman in the world. She has big … eyes and dark (fair) hair. She likes to wear blouses and skirts and she always looks beautiful. My mother is very kind. She is always ready to help me. I often help my mother about the house. I love my mother and she loves me, too.

My father’s name is … . He is … . My father is very busy at weekdays, but at the weekend we always spend time together. He teaches me to play chess and to make different things at home. In summer he teaches me to swim. Sometimes my father is very strict, but I know that he loves me very much. And of course, I love him, too.

I’m very happy because I have a sister (brother). (It’s a pity but I don’t have any sister or brother. I’d like to have a sister (brother).) …….

My family is very friendly and I can’t imagine my life without it.

My School

My school is very big and nice. There is a yard with trees and flowers in front of the school. There is a sports ground behind the school.

We have got many classrooms. There is a big and comfortable Assembly Hall. We have our school parties in it. There are three nice gyms and a good library in our school. We can take books in the library. Pupils have lunch in the school canteen. It is always clean and comfortable.

There are school rules in the corridor. Pupils can read them. We must wear a school uniform every day. We must not be late for school. We must go out of the classroom during the breaks. We must be polite to our teachers and classmates.

I like my school very much.

Seasons

There are four seasons in a year: spring, summer, autumn and winter. All seasons are different.

Spring is green.

Summer is bright.

Autumn is yellow.

Winter is white.

But, of course, all seasons are very beautiful.

Spring gives fresh green leaves to the trees. The grass in the fields, forests and parks is green, too. Birds come back from warm countries and sing nice songs. It is usually warm in spring. Sometimes it rains, but “April showers bring May flowers”.

Summer comes after spring. It is the hottest season of the year. The sky is usually blue, and the sun shines brightly. Sometimes it rains, but summer rains are warm. Very often you can see a rainbow after summer rain. It is so wonderful. Children like summer best of all because they have long summer holidays.

But they like autumn, too, because they meet their friends and teachers again. Early autumn is very beautiful. The leaves on the trees are green, yellow, red and brown. They fall down from the trees and there is a nice bright carpet on the ground. Autumn is a “tasty” season. There are a lot of different fruits and vegetables in the gardens. Late autumn is usually rainy and cold.

Then winter comes and brings rest to nature. The weather is frosty. Sometimes it is very cold. But I like winter because there is much snow everywhere, and I can sledge, skate and ski. I enjoy playing snowballs and making a snowman with my friends.

So, every season has its own charm and beauty, that’s why I like them all.

Holidays

I think that all people like holidays. Holidays bring us a lot of fun. There are different holidays in different countries.

Christmas is a happy holiday in many countries. I like this holiday very much. I usually send Christmas cards to all my relatives and friends. I get cards from them too.

We always have a Christmas tree at home. We put nice glass balls, toys, sweets and lights of different colours on it. At night Father Christmas comes and brings presents to children. He puts presents under the Christmas tree. How happy I am in the morning when I see my presents.

New Year is another holiday that I like very much. We celebrate it on the 31^st of December. We usually have a New Year party at home. We wish a “Happy New Year” to everybody and give presents, too.

But best of all I like my birthday. My birthday is on the … of … . I usually have a party on my birthday. My friends come to the party. They bring different presents. I like all presents and thank my friends for them. But best of all I like to get … and … as a present.

We play games, sing songs, dance and, of course, eat tasty food at the party. We usually have a good time.

At the end of story I want to say that holidays make our life happier and more interesting. That’s why all people like them.

Reading Books

Reading books is a very popular pastime of children and grown ups. Do you know why? Of course, you do. Books are our friends and teachers. You can find answers to all questions in books, because there are different kinds of books.

Books about famous people teach us to be noble, honest and hard-working. Stories about nature teach us to understand the beauty of nature, to take good care of it, to help birds and animals. I’m fond of reading books about other countries. It is so interesting to know their history, traditions, customs and places of interest. It’s fun to read stories about children and their adventures. Fables and fairy-tales are also very amusing. They teach us to be kind and clever, polite and modest, not to be lazy and naughty, not to boast and not to wish too much. They teach us not to be silly and to think well. From books we learn what is right and what is wrong and how to behave in different life situations.

I have got a bright imagination, and when I am reading a book, I imagine the people and places. I often imagine that I am one of the characters. Time flies quickly then, and I can’t take my eyes off the book.

Hobbies and Pastimes

What is a hobby? It is something that people like doing in their free time.

There are a lot of hobbies. Some people are fond of travelling, visiting interesting places, collecting or making different things, playing different games. Others are keen on cooking, gardening, fishing, reading books or writing stories. Many people are crazy about singing, dancing or listening to music.

I enjoy doing different things in different seasons. My favourite pastime in summer is riding my BMX bike. You can listen to birds’ songs and enjoy nature. It’s great. Rollerblading and skateboarding are very popular in summer, too. But I am not very good at them. I need more practice.

Winter is a good season for skiing, skating, sledging, playing snowballs or making a snowman. I often do it with my friends when it is not very frosty. When it is very cold, I love playing computer games or watching TV. I like cartoons, adventure films and comedies. My favourite film is “Home Alone”. My favourite actor is Eddie Murphy. He is so funny. I hate horror films; they are terrible.

There is one more favourite pastime of all children in all seasons. It is having parties. There are theme parties, sleep-over parties, birthday parties, fancy dress parties, outdoor parties and others. Children write invitations, blow up balloons, draw posters and prepare surprises for the party. At the party they eat tasty food, play games, get prizes, sing, dance and talk about different things. It’s fantastic to spend your free time with friends.

Have you got a hobby? If you haven’t, take up some and enjoy it. Life without hobbies is boring and not so exciting.

My Flat

I live with my mother, father and brother in the block of flats. Our flat is on the … floor.

We have got a living-room, a bedroom, a children’s room, a hall, a kitchen and a bathroom.

My room is not very large, but it is light and cosy. I sleep on the comfortable sofa. It is on the left, near the wall. There is a chest of drawers next to the sofa. You can see a nice vase on the chest of drawers. It’s made of china. The writing table is by the window. There is a computer on the writing table and two chairs near it. I have got a lot of books for school and for reading. They are on the bookshelves (in the bookcase).

In the middle of the room there is a big soft carpet. I like to lie on it when I’m tired.

I tidy up my room twice a week. I do the carpet with the vacuum cleaner, polish the furniture and water the flowers. I never drop things around the room. I put them in their places. So, my room is always in order.

Try to keep your room in order.

Sweep the floor and make your bed.

You should never let disorder

Steal your time and make you sad.

Shops and Shopping

We need a lot of things in our everyday life: food to eat, clothes to wear, different things for home and for school. Of course, we haven’t got all these things at home; that’s why we go shopping. Some people enjoy it, others hate it.

As for me, I like to go shopping. I usually buy bread, buns, rolls or biscuits at the bakery. If I want to buy milk, cheese, butter or sour cream, I go to the dairy. I never go to the butcher’s myself because I can’t choose good meat. But I often go to the greengrocery and buy fruit and vegetables there.

There is a big department store near our block of flats. There are many departments in it: men’s clothing department, women’s clothing department, shoes, sports goods, toys, books, souvenirs and others. We usually buy clothes and presents there. My … is fond of reading newspapers and magazines. He(she) buys them at the newsagent’s. If somebody is ill, my mum goes to the chemist’s. They sell medicine there.

Sometimes we do the shopping at the market. Do you know why? Food and clothes are cheaper there. But best of all I like buying things at the supermarket. It is like a travelling. I take a trolley, walk around and choose what I need. Then I pay money and go home. The cashiers always smile and say, “Come again, please.” They are very polite, not like that man in the poem.

Travelling

Travelling is very popular nowadays.

Everybody travels

To places near and far

By bus or train, by boat or plane,

Bicycle or car.

Some people travel on business, others travel for pleasure. When you travel, you can see and learn lots of new things. You can enjoy the beauty of nature. You can visit different cities and countries and make new friends.

There are many ways of travelling. Travelling by plane is the fastest. Modern planes are very comfortable, but the tickets are very expensive. Besides, planes don’t fly in bad weather.

Trains are slower than planes, but not less comfortable. You can see everything from the train window. Trains go in any weather. They are safe and not expensive.

Here come trains. Here come trains.

Many people are crazy about travelling by car. They don’t need to buy tickets. They go where they want and stop where they want. But I think that cars are more dangerous than other means of transport and not so comfortable.

As for me I like to travel very much. I travelled by plane, by train, by bus, by car, by bicycle and on foot. I have got a dream. I want to visit other continents. The best way to get there is by ship. It’s great to breathe the sea air, to watch the fish in the water and the birds over the ship. The passengers can swim in the pool on board the ship or sunbathe. I think a sea voyage is fantastic.

I hope my dream will come true.

What We Eat ( Food)

People can’t live without food. We must eat and drink every day.

I usually have four meals a day: breakfast, lunch, dinner and supper. For breakfast I usually have boiled eggs or omelette, a sandwich and a cup of tea. I have lunch at school.

When I come home after school, I’m very hungry. So, I have dinner. Mother cooks different dishes every day. I like to eat pizza, steaks, sausages, mashed potatoes or French fries, chicken, fish and mushrooms. I don’t like soup, but mother says that we should eat soup or borshch every day. When I’m thirsty, I drink juice, lemonade or coca-cola. I drink tea and milk, too.

In the evening I have supper. I don’t eat much for supper. I have some porridge, vegetable or fruit salad and a glass of milk.

I know that we should eat fresh and healthy food. We should eat a lot of fruit and vegetables. They have many vitamins. We shouldn’t eat much fast food. We shouldn’t drink much coffee. It’s better to eat food cooked at home. It is tastier and healthier.

I can cook some dishes myself. I know how to cook ……..

Great Britain

People live in different countries. They speak different languages. There are many countries in the world where people speak English. Great Britain is one of them. So, I want to tell you about Great Britain.

Great Britain is not very large, but it is a very beautiful country. There are a lot of green forests, low hills and high mountains, long and short rivers in Great Britain. In Scotland there are many nice blue lakes. People like to spend their weekends near the lakes. They can go boating and fishing.

The capital of Great Britain is London. London is a very big city. More than eight million people live in London. London is a green city, because there are many parks in it. The biggest park is Hyde Park. You can have a very good time in London parks. You can sit on the grass, you can play games or watch ducks, you can read a book or talk with your friends.

London Zoo is a very interesting place. You can see birds and animals from different countries and continents. English people enjoy visiting the Zoo.

Ukraine

There are many countries in the world. Some countries are very large; other countries are very small.

We live in Ukraine. Our country is not very large, but it is very beautiful. There are a lot of green forests, blue lakes, long and short rivers, low hills and high mountains in our country. The nature of Ukraine is wonderful in all seasons.

Ukrainian people live in big cities and small villages. The biggest city in Ukraine is Kyiv. Kyiv is the capital of Ukraine. It is a very beautiful city. You can visit a lot of interesting places in Kyiv: parks and squares, monuments and museums. Kyiv Zoo is very big. There are birds and animals from different countries and continents there.

There are many interesting holidays and traditions in Ukraine. One of them is to meet our guests with bread and salt. Ukrainian people like different holidays but best of all they like Christmas and Easter. They cook traditional Ukrainian food for these holidays. It is very tasty.

I am a Ukrainian and I love my country very much.
