PROCEDURE

I. Introduction.

Slide #1

1. Greeting.

  - Good morning, boys and girls! Glad to see you!

How are you? (Fine, super, so-so, not bad, OK).

I see you look great. Are you ready to start the lesson?

2. Warming-up.

- Is it hot today or cold?

- What season is it now?

- What can you do in winter? What do you like doing in winter?  (play snowballs, make a snowman, sledge, ski, skate, playing hockey).

II. Main part.

1. Practicing vocabulary.

-  It`s rather cold today. When the weather is cold and bad I prefer staying at home. And what about you? What can you do at home in your free time? (play computer games, watch TV, read books, knit, sew, paint, draw).

 - You are right. But you are very active persons, I think. That`s why when the weather is fine you take a ball and play. What games can you play? (basketball, volleyball, football, tennis, ball).

 -  In summer we always go to the seaside or to the river. What can we do there? (swim, bathe, go fishing, lie in the sun (sunbathe).

-  So, can you guess what we will be talking about in our today`s lesson? Look at the screen. Let`s open the word.

Slide #2

2. Presentation of the topic.

 - We`ll speak about your free time and how to spend it, about activities you like.

So, please write down the theme of our today’s lesson – My hobby.

Slide#3

3. Reciting a poem.

Slide #4

How do you spend your holidays, Mike?

I usually go on a hike.

And what about you, Tobby?

Go to mountains.It`s my hobby.

4. Vocabulary Revision.

 - Pupils, I`ll show you the pictures and you`ll name the kind of hobby.

Slides #5-14

So, how can we form the hobby-word from different verbs?

What do we need? (Children: ing).

Yes, we need a suffics –ing.

Slide # 15

So, for example if we would  like to read then our hobby is reading; if you would  like to sing – your hobby is singing; if you would like to play – your hobby is playing. Very well!

Very well! Great job!

5. Listening.

Pre-listening.

  •          Well, tell me please, what do you do in your free time? Do you have any hobbies? What are they? (Children)

And now you are going to listen to the letter about Amanda’s hobbies. She is a member of the “English Bridge”.

Hi! My name is Amanda. I live in America. I am a schoolgirl. I am a very active girl. I am fond of playing different games. I like playing football and basketball. I have a brother. His name is Tim. He likes playing football too. He is a football-player in our school team. My father likes playing football too. So, I can tell that playing football is our family hobby.

And now tell me if the sentence is true or false, OK?

Slide#16

1. The girl’s name is Amanda (Yes)

2. She has got a sister. (No)

3. Amanda is from Ukraine. (No)

4. Tim likes playing football. (Yes)

5. The hobby of the girl’s father is reading. (No)

6. Amanda’s hobby is swimming. (No)

Very well, my dear. You are great!

6. Memory Game.

Slide#17-19

 - Look at the screen. You can see some pictures. Try to remember them.  Are you ready? Who wants to name these hobbies?  (singing, dancing, cooking, fishing, playing the guitar, watching TV, listening to music, reading books).

Good job!

And now let’s write a little bit! OK?

7. Writing.

Slide#19

 - Make up sentences using these words and the structures to be fond of, to be interested in.

e.g. I am fond of playing the guitar. (Children’s work at the blackboard and in the copybooks)

Slide #20

8. Presentation of the new material

So, children we can tell that there are many different hobbies, for example dancing, travelling, reading books and so on and so forse.

But we can divide them into four groups:

Slide #21

You can look at exercise 3 on page 109. So, the first group is learning thing, when you can learn something from your hobby; the second is doing things; the third is making things and the fourth is collecting things, when you collect something.

Is it clear? OK! Let’s make this exercise.

Slides #22-26

Tell me what group is this hobby? (Children)

9. Relaxation

Very well. And now let’s play a game and relax.  You have to divide yourselves  into four groups according to the groups of hobbies (slide# 26). You will be “Learning” group, you will be “Making” group, you will be “Doing” group and you will be   “Collecting” group. You must find the pictures of your hobbies. There are four pictures for every group. Be attentive! Good luck.

“Learning” group: reading, going to the theatres, going to the cinema, going to the museums;

“Making” group: painting, sewing, knitting, playing the piano;

“Doing” group: playing computer games, playing chess, travelling, skating;

“Collecting” group: collecting stamps, soldiers, coins, cars.

You are brilliant!

You know a lot of different hobbies but now we are going to learn five more words about this topic. So open your vocabularies and write down the new words.

10. Reading

Pre-reading

  •          And now let’s read letters of our friends. They are writing to the “English Bridge”.  They are writing about their hobbies. Let’s read maybe you have the same hobbies.

Slides #32-34

Ex.1 p.108

Dear “English Bridge”, biking is my favourite pastime.

I am fond of riding a bike. I like to visit a lot of places in the countryside.

Riding a bike is better than driving a car. You can hear birds’ songs and enjoy nature.

                                                                                           Artem Ryznik.

     Hello “English Bridge”!

I collect stamps. It’s my hobby. There are a lot of stamps in my album. My favourite page is the one with stamps about the world capitals. People of many countries are fond of travelling. I am also going to visit different countries and cities in future. I hope I’ll have another hobby – travelling.

                                                                                     Tim Keller.

  Hi, there!

It’s winter now. There are many things I like about winter. The most favourite of my pastimes is skiing and making snowmen.

I love to sit by the fireplace and drink hot chocolate on a cold winter night, with my family. I think one of the best things about winter is having a snowy day!

                                                                                                    Linda Togan

Post-reading
