Ss read text “Stonehenge”
Stonehenge is a circle of large standing stones on Salisbury Plain in Willshire , England. It was built in pre-historic times. Work on the stone circle began in about 3100 BC. About a century later, the large circle of stones around a smaller semi-circle was added. These stones are 9 m long and weigh 50 tons. It is not known exactly why Stonehenge was built, but it is thought that the builders were sun worshippers .What is surprising about Stonehenge is the fact that some of the stones were brought from as far as 385 km away. Today, thousands of tourists travel to see Stonehenge.

T: What grammar structure is used in the sentence “Stonehenge was built in 3100/ 2100 BC?” Ss; Passive voice. T: How is the Passive formed? Ss: It is formed with the verb ‘to be’ and the past participle of the main verb.
T: Complete the sentences with the correct passive form of the verbs in brackets (ex 1 p 155).
Now rewrite the sentences using the passive:
