Lesson plan
Revision
• Revise family members using the flashcards.
• Ask Ss to wear their Ron finger puppet. • Hold up a flashcard and ask Ss, Who's that? Encourage Ss to answer, It's my... while holding up their finger puppets. You may do this as a class or ask Ss individually.
Warm up
• Present the pets using the pet flashcards. Hold up each flashcard, point to it and say, It's a cat. Repeat this with all the flashcards.
Vocabulary
Have Ss open their books to page 36 and point out the pets in the vocabulary section.
• Play the CD a few times and have Ss point to the pets and repeat.
• Say the pets again in random order and have Ss repeat and point.

• Have Ss look at the presentation and ask them (in L1) to tell you if they've ever had a pet and if they haven't, what pet they would like to have and why.
• Ask Ss to identify the animals in the pictures. Ask, What's this? Encourage Ss to answer, It's a (bird/fish).
• Ask Ss to point to the appropriate picture as you play the CD. Play the CD and pause after each phrase for Ss to repeat. Transcript Track 40

• Ask Ss for the names of the children (Tom and May) and their pets (Lou and Fay).
• Play the CD and have Ss listen and point to the appropriate picture.
• Go around the class and check that all Ss are pointing to the correct picture.
• Point to each picture and encourage Ss to say the sentences they heard on the CD.

Direct Ss' attention to the girl in the photo and ask them to guess what she is doing (presenting her pet).
• Read the sentence and have Ss chorally repeat it.

This is my dog, Spot.
• Tell Ss to draw a picture of their pet. If they haven't got one, ask them to draw a picture of a pet they'd like to have. Tell Ss to think of a name for their pet.
• Go around monitoring Ss. If Ss have drawn any unknown pets, make sure to teach any new pet vocabulary necessary before Ss present their pets to the class.
• Call Ss up to the front of the class and have them present their pets individually.
OPTIONAL Piecing the puzzle
• Divide Ss into small groups.
• Give an envelope with the six puzzle pieces to each group.
• Explain that Ss in their group have to do the puzzle and call out the animal.
• The group who does it first wins.
• Alternatively, you can prepare four- piece puzzles and hand a puzzle piece to each S. Let Ss wander around the classroom to find their 'puzzle mates'.
Workbook (OPTIONAL)
1 Have Ss turn to the back of their Workbooks, find the appropriate stickers and stick them in the corresponding places.
2. Have Ss point to the colours at the top of the page and say them aloud. Ask Ss to colour only the shapes with numbers in them, according to the key at the top of the page.
• Once Ss have finished, divide them into pairs. Ss take turns pointing to each pet and talking about it, as in the example in the rubric.
• Ask some Ss to come up to the front of the class, point to each pet and say.
Key It's a cat. It's yellow.
It's a bird. It's blue, green and yellow.
It's a fish. It's green.
It's a dog. It's red.
Note
• For the next lesson, ask Ss to bring props such as:
For grandfather: a cane, a hat, a scarf
For grandmother: a shawl, a grey wig, eye glasses (just the frame)
For mother: an apron, an oven mitt For father: a newspaper, eye glasses (just the frame)
For sister: a doll / a teddy bear
For brother: a football/a baseball cap
• Ask Ss to bring in photos of their family members.
Tell Ss to point to the picture they have drawn in activity 3 when they go home and say. This is my cat/dog/ fish/bird.
