We would like to involve you into the atmosphere of love, beauty, poetry and music at our party!
Also we would like you to get additional information about St Valentine’s customs, love poetry and poets, try yourself in poetic translation and in dramatization. Let’s enjoy this holiday together!
Презентація-День Святого Валентина
Compere 1: Dear boys and girls, teachers and guests! We are very glad to see all of you here today. You know that nowadays people all over the world celebrate one of the most popular festivals in Great Britain and all over the world - St. Valentines Day. St. Valentine is the patron saint of lovers and on the 14th of February young men and women declare their feelings to each other. Today we are celebrating this holiday.
Вірш “Valentine greeting”
(Students are reciting the poem)
Compere 2: Love! Happiness! Beauty! There are not so many days in the year when we pronounce these pleasant words.
Compere 3: We are very glad that you have come to the party dedicated to this most wonderful holiday of the year, the day when the hearts are opened and united to such unique feelings.
Let’s listen to the famous English song of Beatles “Yesterday”. Our guest Kovalenko Denis will sing it for you.
Пісня “Yesterday”
Compere 1:This romantic holiday appeared many years ago and nowadays it feels our hearts with love, reminds us that even among cold snowy and frosty winter there is always the place of the warm, kind and loving heart!
Compere 2:There are many legends of the appearance of this holiday but no one knows its real origin. According to one this day is connected with an ancient Roman Festival called Lupercalia. This was on February, 15 to honor the patron of husbandry
Compare 3: Another story tells us about St. Valentine who was a good friend to children.
Compare1: The most romantic story tells us that St. Valentine was a priest who would marry young couples secretly when the Roman Emperor Claudius 2 forbade marriages. He believed that single man were better soldiers.

Compare 2: There’re many symbols of Valentine’s Day. Listen to the stories about some of them.
(Про символи дня Св. Валентина та показ-презентації)

Compare 3:Heart. Emotions are feelings such as love, happiness, anger, or fear. A long time ago people believed that all the emotions were found in the heart. In later years they thought only the emotion of love was connected with the heart. The heart is still a symbol of love and because of this; it is also a symbol of Valentine’s Day.
Слайд 3
Compare 1: Red Rose. The rose was the favorite flower of Venus, the Roman goddess of love. Red is a color that stands for strong feelings. That is why the red rose is a flower of love.
Слайд 4
Вірш
Let’s listen to the poem by R.Burns “My love is like a red red rose.”

Compare 2: Rings. In some countries men and women exchange rings when they became engaged or marry. Two or three hundred years ago Valentine’s Day was a popular day for giving an engagement ring. The ring usually had stone or jewel set in it. Diamonds are common in today engagement rings.
Слайд 6
Compare 3: Love knot. A love knot is a series of winding and interlacing loops with no beginning and no end. It is a symbol of endless love. People made love knots from ribbon or drew them on paper. Often, a message was written on the love knot. The message had no beginning or end. It could be repeated endlessly.
Слайд 7
Compare 1: Love birds and Doves. Lovebirds are colorful parrots found in Africa. Most have red bills. They are called love birds because they sit closely together in pairs. Doves were thought to be favorite birds of Venus. They remain with the same mates all their lives. The males and females both care for their babies. As these birds are symbols of loyalty and love they are also symbols of Valentine’s Day.
Слайд 8
Compare 2: Cupid. Son of Venus, goddess of love. He could cause people to fall in love by piercing them with one of his magic arrows.
Compare 3: St.Valentine has roots in different legends. Centuries ago Romans used to celebrate the return of spring at the beginning of February.
(Как фон звучит песня Битлз «Girl»)
Compare 1: In old times in Europe young boys got together on February 14and wrote the names of the girls on small pieces of paper, then they tossed them and pulled out one of the card. The girl whose name was written on the card was to be the boy’s Valentine.
Compare 2: Traditions of love have changed over the centuries.
Hundreds of years ago in England, many children dressed up as adults on Valentine’s Day. They went singing from home to home. One verse they sang was:
Good morning to you, valentine;
Curl your locks as I do mine –
Two before and three behind.
Good morning to you, valentine.
Compare 3: Today we still keep many of the old valentine customs. Girls tell fortunes. They count the buttons on their clothes, saying, ”Rich man, poor man, beggar man, thief, doctor, lawyer, merchant, chief.”
Слайд 9
Compare 1: In Wales wooden love spoons were carved and given as gifts on February 14th. Hearts, keys and keyholes were favorite decorations on the spoons. The decoration meant, "You unlock my heart!"
Compare 2: In the Middle Ages, young men and women drew names from a bowl to see who their valentines would be. They would wear these names on their sleeves for one week. To wear your heart or a ribbon on your sleeve now means that it is easy for other people to know how you are feeling.
Also in early times, boys or men showed their love and expressed their attitude to the lady with their heroic deeds. They gave them beautiful flowers and presents. They sang romances beneath the windows…
Лунає пісня E.Presley “ All I need is love”
Compare 3: In some countries, a young woman may receive a gift of clothing from a young man. If she keeps the gift, it means she will marry him.
Слайд 10
Compare 1: Some people used to believe that if a woman saw a robin flying overhead on Valentine's Day, it meant she would marry a sailor. If she saw a sparrow, she would marry a poor man and be very happy. If she saw a goldfinch, she would marry a millionaire.
Слайд 11
Compare 2: Another interesting information concerns Valentine customs among teenagers. Pick a dandelion that has gone to seed. Take a deep breath and blow the seeds into the wind. Count the seeds that remain on the steam. That is the number of children you will have.
Слайд 12
If you cut an apple in half and count how many seeds are inside, you will know your fortunes.
Remember the old English riddle:
“One I love, two he loves,
And three I love, I say.
Four I love with all my heart,
Five I cast away.
Six he loves, seven she loves,
Eight they both love.
Nine he comes, ten he tarries,
Eleven he courts, twelve he marries.”
Слайд 13
Compare 3: There is one beautiful custom in England. On February, 14th, every St. Valentines Day thousands of people travel to a small village on Scotland’s border with England to married. The village is called Gretna Green. Its romantic reputation began in 1754. In that time in England marriage for people under the age of 21 without parents permission was banned
However in Scotland, this permission was not required. Gretna Green was the first stop across the border. Many young couples came to Gretna Green to get married there.
Nowadays in this place, at least one couple gets married every day of the year. Weddings for St. Valentines Day have to be booked for 3 months in advance.
Compare 1: In Сzech Republic, for example, on this day a woman can approach the man she likes and asks him to marry her. If he agrees, he gives her a silk dress.
Compare 2: In Japan every year on the February 14 there is held the contest “Whose love poem-Valentine greeting will be the loudest. It attracts a lot of lovers.
The poem “My Valentine” will be recited by Ponomarenko Aleksey

Compare 3 : The quick and modern way to do it with a Valentine’s card.
There are all kinds, to suit all tastes, the red hearts, gold arrows, cupids, candies in the form of hearts – its all there.
Compare 1 : According to the statistics about 30 million cards are sent by February, 14th. And not all are cheap stuff.
Compare 2 : Some cards costs from 6 to 15 dollars. But some “lovers” want to pay more. They send necklace and earring for 25 thousand dollars or a gold lace for 21 thousand dollars. And if anyone buys them…well, it must be love.
Compare 3: In Britain people spend ₤22 million on Valentine’s Day. Traditionally Romantic people buy 7 million red roses! (Not all in the same bunch of course!)
In the more exclusive parts of central London, a single red rose could cost a young lover up to ₤10! Your Valentine’s Day flower or gift can really show ‘how much’ you care!
Compare 1 : On this holiday people demonstrate love, friendship and loyalty to each other.
They usually make up ‘Valentines’ in the form of a heart and write the best words of love and respect to their friends, relatives, teachers, acquaintances. They may write:

SONNET 130
My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun;
Coral is far more red than her lips' red;
If snow be white, why then her breasts are dun;
If hairs be wires, black wires grow on her head.
I have seen roses damask'd, red and white,
But no such roses see I in her cheeks;
And in some perfumes is there more delight
Than in the breath that from my mistress reeks.
I love to hear her speak, yet well I know
That music hath a far more pleasing sound;
I grant I never saw a goddess go;
My mistress, when she walks, treads on the ground:
And yet, by heaven, I think my love as rare
As any she belied with false compare.

Compare1: “Romeo and Juliet” is a story about true love that is stronger than death. The young lovers Romeo and Juliet were the representatives of two noble Italian families. Juliet was a Capulet, Romeo- a Montague. These families had quarreled with each other and, as they believed in feudal prejudice, the young people were separated and both became victims of the family feud. But the love of Romeo and Juliet was so great and pure that even their families realized it. So, one night Romeo climbed over a night wall and got into the orchard which was under Juliet’s window. Romeo called her. She was ready to give her heart to him. His name and his family were of no importance to her. Sincere feelings taught Romeo to respect the woman he loved.
ROMEO: It is my lady, O, it is my love!
O, that she knew she were…
I am too bold, 'tis not to me she speaks.
O, that I were a glove upon that hand,
That I might touch that cheek.
JULIET :Ah, me!
ROMEO: O, speak again, bright angel!
JULIET :O Romeo, Romeo…
Or, I wish I could no longer be a Capulet.
ROMEO :Shall I hear more, or shall I speak?
JULIET: O gentle Romeo, If you love me, pronounce it again and again.
ROMEO :What shall I swear by?
JULIET :Do not swear at all; Good night, good night! as sweet repose and rest
Come to thy heart as that within my breast.
ROMEO: Oh, I love you my dear Lady!
JULIET : My love is deep.
I hear some noise within,
Dear love, adieu.
ROMEO: oh, blessed, blessed night I am afraid, Being a night, all this is nothing but a dream.

Compare2: The greatest writers in the world are those who can convey the emotions of their characters in a real and meaningful way. This explains why Shakespeare is so much admired. The more the experts study his works, the more they marvel at his ability to express deep and profound emotions. And, of course, love takes the first place in Shakespeare’s works and sonnets.

Tsvetaeva, Ivan Franko, A.S. Pushkin, Volodymyr Sosyura and others, whose poems were translated into many languages and , of course, in English.

SCENE 1
Narrator: Long, long ago near the East Sea in the Rose Valley in Korea there lived a beautiful sunny girl. Her name was An Rean Dju.

Each man wanted to marry An Rean Dju. Who will she give the plum branch to? Who will be her bridegroom?
Girl: My dear friends, all of you are strong, brave and reliable; handsome and smart. All of you have many attractive features of character. That’s why it’s very difficult for me to choose one of you as my future husband.
Youth 1: What will you do, dear An Rean Dju? Whatis your decision?
Youth 2: Please don’t hide your thoughts, dear beauty.
Youth 3: Tell us the word of hope. What will you do now? Who will be the lucky one?

Girl: There are three nice men in my native town. Each of them has many good features of character. And each of them wants to marry me. But I don’t know how
to choose the best of them.
Sage: I’ll help you. Take these golden coins and give them to the men. Let them buy some presents for you. He whose present is the best will be your groom.
Girl: Thank you, the wise sage. I will do as you have taught me.
SCENE 3
Youth 1: What is your decision, the sunny girl?
Youth 2: What is your choice?
Youth 3: Will you tell us the answer, dear An Rean Dju?
Girl: Listen to me, dear friends! The old sage told me to give you these golden coins. You have to buy me presents. He whose present is the best will be my husband.
(The three young men take the coins and leave.)
Narrator: They went far away, beyond the Great Chinese Wall, farther than the Mongolian desert and steppes, to the country of vast spaces, wonderful gardens and the bright sun.
(Again three young men come to the stage. They have sacks behind their backs. The boys sit down and begin to eat. Then they take their presents out of the sacks.
The first man takes a wonderful mirror, the second young man has a feather of the Fire-bird and the present of the third one is a magic apple. They begin to talk.)
Youth 1: I have bought a magic mirror in China. If I wish, I can see her every minute and know what she is doing at the moment.
Youth 2: And I have brought her a magic feather. You only need to wave the feather three times and in a moment will be near the house of An Rean Dju.
Youth 3: And I have found a magic apple. If An Rean Dju falls ill, I shall give her this apple and she will be all right again.
Youth 1: Fellows, do you know what I have just seen in the magic mirror? Our dearest girl is dying.
Youth 2: Her illness is serious, she is in bed!
Youth 3: It’s a deadly disease, she bids farewell to her family!
Youth 1: What shall we do, friends?
Youth 2: Now I shall wave the feather of the Fire-bird three times and three of us will be near the house of the sunny An Rean Dju.
(He waves the magic feather three times and they all find themselves near the house of An Rean Dju.)
Girl: Now I need none of your presents. I’m dying…
Youth 3: Dear maiden, take this magic apple and eat a little bit of it. Your illness will leave you.
(He gives the apple to the girl.)
Girl: Oh, now I feel much better. I’m as strong as ever.
Thank you, dear friends, you have saved me from death.
Let me show you who will be my husband.
(She goes to the young man that gave her the apple.)
Girl: Take this flowering branch and let me be your
wife.
Sage: You have made a true choice, the wise maiden.
Indeed, each of you, (he points to the 1st and 2 nd young men) thought first of all about your own pleasure. And only the third boy worried about the girl.
(The actors come to the edge of the stage and bow to the spectators.)
