THE FIRST TERM
LISTENING COMPREHENSION
1. Seller: Good morning, Linda. Can I help you?
Linda: Yes, have you got chocolate cakes?
You know, it is my mum’s birthday today. Usually she goes shopping. But today she is at work, so I’m doing
the shopping.
S: It’s Sunday today. Does she work on Sundays?
L: Sometimes. And sometimes she doesn’t work on weekdays. She’s a doctor at the hospital.
S: Oh, I see. Do you want anything else?
L: Well, we are going to have sandwiches. There’s some cheese and sausage for sandwiches in the fridge. We’ve got some meat and vegetables for salads. But there isn’t anything for tea. So can I have a bag of sugar, a jar of apple jam, three lemons and a cake, please?
S: Of course, here you are. Say hello to your mum.
L: Thank you. Good bye.
2. 1) — Hello! Merry Christmas!
— Oh! Who are you?
— I am Santa Claus. That is the present for you.
— Where is it? Is it under the Christmas tree?
— No. It is in the stocking, under your bed.
— Thank you.
2) Shop assistant: Can I help you?
Boy: Yes, I’d like to buy a present for my friend, but I don’t know what I want to get for him.
S: Does he have any hobbies? Photography, music or books?
B: I am not sure.
S: Perhaps he’d like a computer game?
B: Great! I’ll buy a computer game for him.
3) Waiter: Good afternoon. Can I help you?
Customer: Yes. I’d like a sandwich, please. What kinds do you have?
W: There are chicken, tomato and cheese sandwiches. And we also have hamburgers. You can take tea, juice or coke to drink.
C: How much is a chicken with mayonnaise?
W: It’s two seventy-five.
C: Well, it’s too expensive. OK. A cheese sandwich, please, and a cup of tea.
W: OK. Just a minute.
